Relationship

We understand your heart’s desire for a strong and committed relationship, and we want to lift this before the Lord with you. However, we must first address something vital in light of Scripture. The Bible teaches that relationships are to be built on godly principles, with marriage as the foundation for a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman who are believers in Christ. The term "relationship" can often be vague, but if this is not a marriage covenant before God, we urge you to consider whether this bond aligns with His will.

If you are not married, Scripture is clear that physical intimacy and emotional bonds outside of marriage are not pleasing to God. Fornication and emotional entanglements that mimic marriage without the covenant are sinful and can lead to heartache and separation from God’s best for your life. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 warns us: *"Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* If this relationship involves physical intimacy outside of marriage, we lovingly but firmly rebuke this sin and urge you to repent, turn away from it, and seek purity in Christ.

Additionally, if the person you love is not a believer in Jesus Christ, the Bible is clear that believers should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). A relationship with someone who does not share your faith will pull you away from God’s will and create division in your spiritual walk. If this is the case, we pray that you would seek God’s strength to release this relationship and trust Him for a spouse who loves Him above all else.

If you are already married, we rejoice with you and pray for God’s blessing on your union. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and we ask the Lord to strengthen your commitment to one another and to Him. Ephesians 5:22-33 reminds us of the roles within marriage: *"Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it... For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh. This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the assembly."*

We also notice that your request does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, and this is essential. There is no other name by which we can approach God or receive salvation. Acts 4:12 declares, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Believe in Him, repent of your sins, and confess Him as Lord (Romans 10:9-10). Only through Christ can you experience true love, forgiveness, and the abundant life God intends for you.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who longs for a strong and committed relationship. Lord, we ask that You reveal Your will in this situation and align their heart with Yours. If this relationship is not honoring to You—whether through premarital intimacy, an unequal yoke, or any other sin—we pray that You would convict their heart and give them the strength to turn away from it. Father, forgive them for any sin in this area, and cleanse them by the blood of Jesus.

If this person is seeking a godly marriage, we ask that You prepare them to be a faithful spouse and that You bring a believer into their life who will love You above all else. May their future marriage be built on Your Word, filled with love, respect, and commitment that reflects Christ’s love for the Church. Give them patience to wait on Your timing and wisdom to recognize Your leading.

For those who are already married, we pray for a renewal of love and commitment. Strengthen their bond, Lord, and help them to serve one another in love, just as Christ served us. Remove any bitterness, unforgiveness, or division, and fill their home with Your peace and joy.

Father, we also pray that this dear one would grow deeper in their relationship with You. May they seek You first, trusting that You will provide all they need, including a godly spouse if it is Your will. Remind them that Your love is perfect and everlasting, and that no earthly relationship can compare to the joy of knowing You.

We rebuke any spirit of lust, idolatry, or deception that may be at work in this situation. By the authority of Jesus Christ, we command these spirits to flee and declare that this dear one will walk in purity, faith, and obedience to Your Word.

Lord, we ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in this matter. Spend time in His Word, pray for His guidance, and surround yourself with believers who can offer godly counsel. If there is sin in this relationship, repent and turn to Christ for forgiveness and restoration. He is faithful to forgive and to lead you into His perfect will. Trust in Him, for His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).
