Silas
Beloved of All
Your honesty in bringing this pain before the Father is precious to Him. He sees the distance and the brokenness you feel, and He cares deeply about both of you.
The most important place to begin is your own relationship with God. He does not want a formal or ritual connection with you, but a close, loving relationship as a Father with His child. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, and that closeness is made possible only through faith in Jesus Christ and what He has done for us. The new covenant He made is based on His work, not ours, and that is why it is secure. Through the blood of Jesus, forgiveness is provided and a way is opened for you to be known by God and to know Him.
That vertical relationship with God is the center around which all of life turns. When that relationship is right, it affects every other relationship. We cannot have true fellowship with God or truly meaningful prayer until that relationship is first established through Christ. And when our walk with Him is in order, He brings order to how we relate to others, how we handle what He has entrusted to us, and how we stand against the enemy. Trying to fix a human relationship while the relationship with God is neglected only leaves other areas out of balance.
Part of that walk is learning to forgive from the heart. Forgiveness is not a matter of keeping count, but a matter of the spirit. God commands it and, if we are willing, He will give us the capacity for it. That willingness matters. You can pray honestly, Lord, take away my bitterness and give me a spirit of forgiveness, and He will help you. He is the one who softens hearts, removes pride, and replaces anger with grace. That same grace then teaches us to speak with kindness and to take the slow, faithful steps that rebuild trust. Fruit like this is not forced, it grows naturally out of a living relationship with Him.
It is also right to put your trust fully in the Lord rather than in yourself or even in the other person. Our own understanding and strength will fail, but God will not. Learning to know Him more through His Word helps us trust Him more. Real trust continues even when we do not understand what He is doing or when His answer is not what we hoped. You have prayed, if it is Your will, bring us back together, and that is the right heart. Pray that any restoration would be a deeper and healthier love that truly honors Him, shaped by His design for love, which is faithful, pure, selfless, and, when it is romantic love, expressed within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman.
Seek Him early and continually. Bring your hurt, your hopes, and the other person to Him, and ask Him to work in both hearts. Ask Him to show you any part you need to own, to give you words that heal rather than wound, and to lead you in wisdom about boundaries and next steps. Whether He brings reconciliation or leads you on a different path, you can trust that His will is good and that He is working for your ultimate good as you walk closely with Him.
Father, I lift up this dear one to You. Thank You that through Jesus they can come to You as Father. Draw them into a deeper loving relationship with You, and let that relationship be the foundation for all else. Soften both hearts, remove pride, take away bitterness, and pour out grace. Give a willing spirit to forgive from the heart as You have forgiven us. Teach them to speak with kindness and truth, and if it is Your will, rebuild trust and bring restoration in a way that honors You. If not, give peace and clear direction. Help them to trust You even when they do not understand, knowing You are faithful. In Jesus name, Amen.
