Good and Faithful Servant
I am trying to reconnect with relatives and friends who I previously cut off contact with but many of these people live worldly lives and are lost even though they believe they are Christian. Some are not Christian at all. Please pray I would not be influenced by any of this worldliness. God has led me to reconcile with them. Thank you.

We thank God for your obedience in seeking reconciliation where He has led you, and we join with you in prayer for wisdom and protection as you reconnect with relatives and friends.

We are encouraged by your discernment in recognizing that many who profess to be Christians are living worldly lives, and that some do not know Christ at all. Scripture calls us to the ministry of reconciliation, for God reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation 2 Corinthians 5:18, and at the same time we are warned to guard our hearts and not be conformed to the world. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. We are to be light in darkness, not partakers of it. You are the light of the world Matthew 5:14, and Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them Ephesians 5:11. This means we can love and pursue those who are lost, we can gently speak truth, but we must not participate in or excuse worldliness, and we must not let evil companionships corrupt good morals 1 Corinthians 15:33.

We notice your request mentions God but does not mention Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is in Jesus name that we pray and that reconciliation with God and with others is made possible, and we encourage you to keep Christ at the center of every conversation and every reunion.

We pray together for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up our dear brother or sister to you and thank you for the work you have done in their heart to seek peace and reconciliation. We ask for your wisdom and discernment as they reconnect, that you would give them words seasoned with grace and truth. Fill them with your Holy Spirit so that they may be salt and light and not be drawn back into worldliness. Guard their mind and heart, renew them daily in your Word, and put a hedge of protection around them. Help them to set godly boundaries, to love without compromising, to speak the truth in love, and to not be conformed but to be transformed. We pray for each relative and friend they will meet, that those who are deceived thinking they are Christians while living for the world would be convicted and drawn to true repentance, and that those who do not know you at all would see Christ in our friend and come to saving faith. Grant boldness to share the gospel, gentleness to answer with hope, and strength to walk away from any temptation or unfruitful deed. Keep them in close fellowship with faithful believers who will encourage and hold them accountable, and let all these reconciliations bring glory to you. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to remain rooted in daily prayer and the Word, to seek counsel and accountability from mature believers as you reestablish these relationships, and to pray before and after each time you meet with them. Ask the Lord for wisdom, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. Be ready to give an answer for the hope that is in you with gentleness, and trust that as you walk closely with Christ, you will be the influencer for His kingdom rather than being influenced by the world. We stand with you and continue to pray that the Lord will keep you steadfast, joyful, and pure as you obey Him in this calling.

Thank you for sharing this with us. We hear your desire to obey what you sense God is leading you to do in reconciling, and also your honest concern about not being pulled back into worldliness. Both matter, and it is wise to hold them together.

Reconciliation is not just resuming contact, it is an active, patient rebuilding of trust and care, and it goes best when it is intentional. Part of that is remembering that we naturally influence one another. Being around anyone over time shapes us a little, so thinking ahead about that influence is not lack of love, it is stewardship of your own walk.

It can help to think of boundaries as a kind of property line. They clarify what is yours to take responsibility for, your values, choices, time and energy, and what is not yours to carry. When that line is clear, you can stay connected and caring without feeling you have to go along with everything or lose your freedom to say yes and no.

One practical step that often helps is to decide those lines before you reach out. Choose ahead of time how long a visit or call will be, what activities or conversations you will step away from, and who is a trusted believer you can talk with afterward to process how it went. Having that plan in place keeps you grounded and free to love your relatives and friends well while staying anchored.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask for steady wisdom in each conversation and visit. Guard their heart and keep them close to You, give clarity about when to lean in and when to step back, and let Your love be seen through them. Lead each of these relationships according to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing to be reconciled to those from whom you have been estranged is itself a work which God delights to own, for He is the God of Peace and He has, on His part, prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation. He has committed unto us the word of reconciliation because we can speak from experience of what it is to be at peace with God and of the joy which that peace brings.

We will pray with you that in this going back to kindred and friends you may walk wisely and watchfully. You have judged rightly that many who bear the name of Christian are yet at enmity against God, and that others make no profession at all. To love them and seek their good is Christlike, but to be conformed to their ways would be to your hurt. You need neither fish in the waters of sin, nor go boating upon the waves of worldliness, you are in danger if you do.

Take then this twofold resolve which the Scripture presses upon us. First, be resolved against sin. No man keeps God's statutes unless he exercises a resolve to do so, for the very essence of obedience lies in the heart, and the heart must be set upon obedience. Second, pray against it, and fall back upon the naked fact that a real conquest of sin is the work of God Himself. As it is written, I cried unto You, hear me, I shall keep Your testimonies. You must have found this out if you are striving against sin, that you will have a habitual mistrust of yourself, and that is wholesome.

So we pray for you that the Lord would keep you as a fortified city, and as an iron pillar and bronze walls against all that would draw you aside, that He would grant you to be led by the Spirit and not by the flesh, for the Spirit never leads the flesh which is enmity against God. We ask that He would make you watchful against secret sins, lest while you bar the doors against open temptation there should be a thief under the bed, some hidden evil or secret lust entertained within.

We pray also for those to whom you go, that the word of reconciliation in your mouth may be owned of God to their awakening. May the Lord who gives fruitful seasons and is not provoked though men continue to rebel, show them their great debt which they can never pay, and then show them that He has blotted out the handwriting which was against them through the blood of His Son, for there is salvation through Jesus Christ alone. May your life among them be a quiet testimony that there is a new nature which alone the Holy Spirit can lead, and may family prayer and private prayer be diligently and spiritually maintained in your own house, that you may be kept from falling.

May the Lord hear your cry, keep your feet from sliding, and make your reconciliation to be not a return to worldliness but a means by which light enters darkness, to His praise.
