Reconciliation

Thank you for opening your heart and sharing this burden. Four years and five months of daily connection across such a great distance shows how much you have invested and how deeply you care, and it is understandable that the silence since the misunderstanding hurts so much. The Lord does know you, He created you with purpose, and He sees what you have been through.

Scripture teaches that your relationship with God is primary. It is the center upon which everything else turns. When that vertical relationship is right, every other relationship has a chance to come into balance, and when it is not right, other relationships will also be out of balance. You can often trace struggles with others back to where you are with Him. That is why the first concern is not only what happens between you and this other person, but what is happening between you and the Lord.

God does not want a distant or merely formal relationship with you. He does not want a half hearted or ritualistic connection. He wants a close, loving relationship as a Father with His child, made possible through faith in Jesus Christ. Through Christ you are brought into a new life in the Spirit, no longer living only to try to keep a law, but living to bring forth fruit that comes from Him. That fruit is love, and love shows itself in joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness and self control.

Because your relationship with God is meant to enhance every other relationship, the way forward in this painful time is to pursue Him first. Scripture urges us to follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. To seek Him with a whole heart, not holding back part of your life for the world or the flesh. As you draw near to Him, He shapes your character and your responses, and that inward work becomes visible in how you speak, how you forgive, and how you wait.

That shaping includes long suffering and kindness, love without pretense, truthfulness, and relying on the power of God rather than only on your own efforts. Reconciliation with others flows out of first being reconciled to God through Jesus. He is the one who gives us the ministry of reconciliation, and He heals our relationship with Himself so that we can then love others rightly.

I will pray for you. I pray that the Lord will draw you into a deeper, loving fellowship with Himself, that you will know how much He loves you and learn to love Him in return. I pray that He will give you wisdom, humility and patience in this situation, grace to speak the truth in love, grace to listen, and grace to forgive as Christ has forgiven you. I pray that if reconciliation is according to His will and for good, He will open the door for honest and kind communication and heal what has been broken. And if His path for you is different, I pray He will make His will clear, keep you in purity and in His peace, and guide both of you toward what honors Him. Above all, I pray that whatever the outcome with this person, your life will show the beauty of a life walked with Jesus, and that every relationship you have will be strengthened because your walk with Him is wholehearted.

May the Lord comfort you, keep you, and lead you step by step in His love and truth.
