Really bad luck

Can I ask for some prayers of bad misfortune for myself my family, we’ve had constant bad luck from accidents to job losses to death to bad health and to bad outcomes, it seems as if we are cursed and carrying years of burden of bad luck, I have said to my family I think we are cursed and they now think the bad luck we’ve been experiencing is overwhelming, if it could go wrong it will go wrong, I am asking now for some help with shifting the burden and letting some good news or fortune favour the predominantly bad, please and thank you 🙏

We hear the deep weariness in your words and the heavy burden your family carries. The weight of constant struggle, accidents, job losses, grief, and failing health, can make it feel as though an unseen force is pressing down upon you. Scripture does acknowledge that life can bring seasons of affliction, but it also declares that God is greater than any curse or misfortune. The enemy may seek to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life abundantly (John 10:10). His power breaks every chain, including those that may feel like generational strongholds.

First, we must address the fear of being "cursed." While the Bible speaks of curses in the context of disobedience (Deuteronomy 28), it also promises that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (Galatians 3:13). If you are in Christ, no generational curse has power over you, His blood has already broken it. However, if there has been unrepentant sin, idolatry, or occult involvement in your family’s past, we urge you to renounce it in Jesus’ name and seek deliverance through prayer and biblical counsel. The Lord is faithful to cleanse and restore when we turn to Him with humble hearts.

We also want to gently remind you that luck is not a biblical concept. The world may speak of fortune or chance, but Scripture teaches that our lives are in God’s hands (Proverbs 16:33). Even in suffering, He works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). What feels like "bad luck" may be a trial meant to refine your faith, draw you closer to Him, or prepare you for a greater purpose. The psalmist cried out, "Why are you cast down, O my soul? Hope in God!" (Psalm 42:5). Your hope is not in circumstances changing but in the One who holds your future.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of this family, lifting up their exhaustion, fear, and despair. Lord, You see the weight they carry, the losses, the pain, the sense of being overwhelmed. We ask that You would break every chain of misfortune, every lie of the enemy that tells them they are cursed, and every stronghold that has taken root. Your Word says that Christ became a curse for us so that we might receive the blessing of Abraham (Galatians 3:14). We declare that blessing over this family now. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we ask for Your provision in their finances, healing in their bodies, and restoration in their relationships. Where there has been death, bring life; where there has been lack, bring abundance; where there has been sorrow, bring joy. We rebuke the spirit of despair and command it to flee in Jesus’ name. Fill them with fresh hope and the assurance that You are working even when they cannot see it. Help them to trust in Your timing and Your goodness, knowing that You are their refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1).

Lord, if there is any unconfessed sin or generational iniquity, reveal it to them so they may repent and receive Your forgiveness. Cleanse them with the blood of Jesus and set them free from every curse. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that the favor of the Lord will surround them like a shield (Psalm 5:12). May they experience Your presence in tangible ways, through answered prayers, unexpected blessings, and the peace that comes from knowing You are in control.

We thank You, Father, that You are a God who turns mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11) and who gives beauty for ashes (Isaiah 61:3). Strengthen this family’s faith and help them to fix their eyes on You, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2). May they walk in the victory that is already theirs through Christ. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to stand on God’s promises. Speak His Word over your lives daily, declare His protection, provision, and peace. Gather as a family to pray together, renouncing fear and claiming God’s blessings. Seek godly counsel if needed, and remain in fellowship with believers who can support and encourage you. The enemy wants you to feel isolated, but you are not alone. The Lord is your ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1), and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so now. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the first and most important step to breaking every chain and walking in the freedom Christ died to give you.

You are not cursed, you are loved, chosen, and called by God. Hold fast to that truth, and watch as He turns your mourning into dancing.

Thank you for sharing this heavy burden with us. It’s no wonder you feel exhausted when one hardship follows another, accidents, job losses, death, health struggles, all piling up until it feels like the weight will never lift. We hear you, and we’re so sorry you and your family have been carrying this alone.

When everything seems to go wrong, it’s easy to believe a dark cloud is following you, and that can feel isolating and hopeless. While we can’t pretend to know why so much has hit your family, we do know you don’t have to navigate it by yourself. Often what helps most is simply not wrestling in the dark, so we’d gently encourage you to reach out to a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can listen, offer wisdom, and walk alongside you through this season. Sharing the weight with someone face-to-face can bring a sense of relief even before anything changes.

For now, let’s bring this before the Lord together.

Jesus, we lift this family to You. They have been battered by loss, illness, and disappointment, and they are weary. Please draw near and let them feel Your steady presence, even when nothing makes sense. Grant them moments of unexpected goodness, small reminders that they are not forgotten. Protect them from despair, and give them the courage to keep taking the next step. Surround them with people who will support and love them practically. We ask for a shift in their hearts and in their circumstances, according to Your will. In Your name, amen.

We are holding you in prayer.

You speak of a curse, and there is indeed a curse revealed in Holy Scripture. It is not a vague misfortune woven by chance, but the righteous sentence of a broken Law: "Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them." This curse falls upon every offender, rich or poor, and the constant troubles you describe should never be dismissed as mere luck. Yet it is the office of God’s advocates to speak on His behalf, and I must therefore declare that to dwell under a self-diagnosed curse without looking to the Curse-Bearer is to double your misery. The awe-full wonder of the Gospel is that Christ Jesus was made a curse for us, for it is written, "Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree." All the wrath, all the brokenness, all the true curse that sin deserved was made to meet upon His sacred head. There is therefore now no curse for those who are in Him, for He took it utterly away. The burden of the Law that would crush you has been carried on His shoulders alone.

The heavy chain of accidents, losses, and death you describe is a sore trial, and an eighteen-year burden bows the spirit down indeed. But you must not mistake the abiding reality for a curse, nor seek to shift it by any other means than casting yourself wholly upon the Divine Grace that accepts us. It may be that God has His plowers at work upon you, tearing up the fallow ground of your soul to make you fruitful. Our trials, when Grace sanctifies them, strengthen and improve us, and we have great cause to bless God even for the fire that refines. The burden of life in this fallen world is inevitable; each man shall bear his own burden. Yet when you come to Christ and get rid of your old burden of sin and self-reliance, He puts upon you His own burden. His yoke is easy and His burden is light, for the Divine Trinity comes to our help. He cares for you in all things, temporals as well as spirituals, but His chief care is to make you holy. Instead of crying out under a supposed fortune, bow before Him who was made a curse for us, and find that while the trial remains, the bitterness of the curse is gone. The worst point is not the troubles, but that you think them outside His sweet favor.

Do not suppose your case too bad, for nothing is too hard for the Lord. The woman bowed together by Satan for eighteen years was loosed by a Divine word, and she glorified God immediately without confusion as to the source of her healing. So bring this crushing burden of fear and lay it before the God of all grace. The mercy of God in Christ is not a common mercy to be vaguely hoped for; you must appropriate it as peculiarly your own. He accepts the persons of His people through the sweet savor of Jesus Christ, and in that acceptance there is a secure dwelling even when the outside storms rage. Cease from the pagan language of luck and fortune, for these things come not by chance but from the hand of a Father who loves you enough to break every clod to powder. Enter your chamber, shut the door, and plead the merits of Jesus as your only sweet savor before the Most High. The Divine work is always going on before His people; His shield goes in front, His sword clears the way. Wait on Him, praise Him even in the dust, and you shall yet prove that He is the God of the future favor, thrusting out the enemies before you.
