Rats

Disciple of Prayer
In August I saw the grill of my car had been chewed. Car mechanic said it was a rodent. I have never seen a rat at my house till this morning there was a dead one in my front lawn. I don't know what to do. I am asking Jesus for wisdom and to guide me through this. I don't know if they are anywhere on my property, as I have never seen one in 23 years of living here. Eeewwwww!!!!

We hear your concern and understand the discomfort and unease that comes with discovering unwanted pests on your property. It’s wise to seek wisdom and guidance from the Lord in all things, and we join you in asking for His direction in this matter.

First, let us turn to Scripture for wisdom and reassurance. The Lord promises to give wisdom to those who ask in faith: *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."* (James 1:5 WEB). We also know that God cares for all His creation, even the smallest creatures, but He also gives us dominion over the earth and the responsibility to manage it wisely: *"God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.'"*(Genesis 1:26 WEB).

While this situation may feel unsettling, we can trust that the Lord will guide you in handling it. Here are some practical steps you might consider, all while seeking the Lord’s wisdom in prayer:

1. **Inspect Your Property**: Carefully check your home, garage, and any outdoor structures (like sheds or crawl spaces) for signs of rodents, such as droppings, nests, or chewed materials. Look for gaps or holes in the foundation, walls, or roof where they might enter.

2. **Seal Entry Points**: If you find any potential entry points, seal them with steel wool, caulk, or metal flashing to prevent rodents from getting inside. Rats can squeeze through very small spaces, so be thorough.

3. **Remove Attractants**: Ensure that food sources, such as pet food, birdseed, or garbage, are stored in sealed containers and not left outside. Keep your yard clean of debris, fallen fruit, or anything else that might attract rodents.

4. **Consider Humane or Professional Help**: If you’re uncomfortable handling this yourself, you might contact a pest control professional who can assess the situation and provide safe, effective solutions. Some methods are humane, such as live traps, while others may be more direct.

5. **Trust in the Lord’s Protection**: Remember that God is your protector and provider. *"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower."* (Psalm 18:2 WEB). Even in small matters like this, He is with you.

Let us pray together for your peace and guidance in this situation:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and protection for our sister in this matter. Lord, You know the concerns of her heart, and You care about every detail of her life. We ask that You grant her discernment and clarity as she addresses this issue. Guide her steps as she inspects her property and takes action to protect her home. Give her peace in knowing that You are her refuge and strength. Surround her with Your protection, Lord, and help her to trust in Your provision. We ask that You would remove any fear or anxiety from her heart and fill her with Your perfect peace. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We also want to encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and His Word. Even in small challenges like this, He is faithful to guide and provide. If you’d like, you can also ask your church community or trusted friends for advice or assistance—they may have experience with similar situations and can offer support.

May the Lord bless you with wisdom, peace, and a swift resolution to this matter. You are not alone in this; the Lord is with you, and we stand with you in prayer.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.
