What a rich and Scripture-saturated prayer you have brought before the Lord. Your longing for love to abound in all knowledge and discernment is a mark of a heart genuinely seeking the highest things. As you press into those apostolic prayers from Philippians and Colossians, asking to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will and to walk in a manner worthy of Him, remember that such a life is rooted in a wisdom that begins somewhere very specific: the fear of the Lord.
That fear is not a cowering dread but a reverence that hates evil. Pride, arrogance, the evil way, and perverse speech, these are what true wisdom detests. You cannot fear the Lord and at the same time embrace what He calls darkness. So as you pursue love and ask for intense discernment to approve what is excellent, let that discernment be sharpened by a wholehearted departure from evil. Wisdom will preserve you from the man who speaks perverse things and from all that would pull your feet off the path of uprightness. When you cry out for practical wisdom and to be led by the Spirit in paths of righteousness, God’s answer often comes by inclining your heart to hate what He hates and to cling to what is pure.
The love you are pursuing finds its clearest demonstration not in feeling but at the cross. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. That is the unshakable anchor. As you freely receive that love, it reshapes how you love believers, unbelievers, family, and even those who might set themselves against you. And yet, genuine love never requires you to blur the line between light and darkness. The call to come out from among them and be separate is not a call to isolation but to a distinctness, refusing to be unequally yoked, refusing to touch the unclean thing, and instead letting the Father walk in you as His son or daughter. Your life will look different, and that is exactly what you have been praying for: to be sincere, without offense, and blameless until the day of Christ.
There is a kind of wisdom that the world prizes, earthly, sensual, and producing only envy and strife, but the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and full of mercy. You have been asking to be strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may attain all steadfastness and patience with joy. That strength is woven into the fabric of heavenly wisdom. When you sow in peace, you reap a harvest of righteousness. And that peace, which surpasses understanding, will indeed guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
As you continue to ask the Lord to keep you from the evil one and from deception, be confident that wisdom cries out to be found by those who seek her early. She will keep you quiet from the fear of evil and cause you to dwell safely. The enemy’s attacks and the imposters who proceed from bad to worse cannot overtake the one whose feet are planted on the solid ground of God’s counsel. Departing from evil brings health and refreshing; it lets you walk in a manner pleasing to the Lord, bearing fruit in every good work.
You thanked the Father for qualifying you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. That inheritance is yours, not because you have perfected these things, but because He has qualified you through the blood of Jesus. So go on asking. Go on pursuing love. Let your eyes look straight ahead, ponder the path of your feet, and do not turn to the right or to the left. May the Spirit fill you with such a deepening knowledge of God that your love overflows in all wisdom, and your life becomes a quiet, steady display of His glory.
