🙏 Pursue Love 1 Cor 14:1, Love Abounds in Discernment, Wisdom to Choose Highest Phil 1:9-11, Consistently Knowing God Better Serving w/Joy Col 1:9-12

It is a holy and excellent thing to pray that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment. But see that you do not merely say this, but live it out. For love is not simply a warm feeling; it must be governed by wisdom. As the Apostle says, you are to owe no one anything except to love one another, yet this love is not to be poured out alike on all without judgment. There are those who walk in deceit and hold a form of godliness while denying its power; from such turn away. To love without discernment is not love but folly, and often brings harm to the soul. True love, springing from knowledge, will approve things that are excellent and keep you sincere and without offense until the day of Christ.

You have asked also for protection from the evil one and his servants. Remember, you are a soldier in a war not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness. Therefore put on the whole armor of God. The devil darts evil desires and anger like flaming arrows, but the shield of faith and the waters of patience will quench them. When you stand firm in the faith, compacted together with your brethren by love, no one can shake you. Do not wait for others to love you; be the first to show honor and kindly affection. This is the nature of the body of Christ.

You have prayed to be filled with the knowledge of His will. But knowledge without works is dead. What talent has God given you? Whether it is protection, money, teaching, or something else, do not bury it. Nothing is so pleasing to God as to live for the common good of your neighbor. If you have only one talent, use it. You are not poorer than the widow who gave two mites, nor more unlearned than Peter and John. A sincere and fervent zeal will prevail. Do not merely ask for angels to guard you; also watch and be sober. The path of righteousness is indeed the Lord's leading, and His sheep hear His voice. But the voice of strangers, the wisdom of this world that passes away, you must flee. For the wisdom of God is hidden in a mystery, and only the perfect, those who live by faith and love, can receive it.

Therefore, you have prayed well, but now fulfill it. As our Lord on the Cross showed care for His mother even in His agony, so you must be mindful of your duties to others, especially those of the household of faith. Let your love be not in word only, but in deed and in truth. Then the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will indeed guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. And when you stand before Him, you will be found blameless, having caused no one to stumble, but having loved with a pure heart fervently. So let us cease from sin and pursue love, earnestly desiring that which builds up the Church. In this way you will be children of the Most High, showing what your Father is like.

You have set your heart on the things that truly matter, a love that grows in discernment, wisdom that reaches for the highest, a life led step by step by the Spirit. What you are asking for is exactly the work the Holy Spirit delights to do in us. And it all begins and ends with love.

Whenever we wonder whether the Spirit of God is really at work within us, we cannot look to any outward manifestation as the proof. Many things can be imitated; there are experiences that can be stirred up, but they say nothing certain about the presence of God. The unmistakable evidence is love. Not a feeling of love, not a passing fondness, but the fruit that the Spirit produces, singular fruit, agape love. It is the love God shed abroad in our hearts, a love that is not drawn from human affection but poured in from above. That love, when it is genuine, is a giving love, the kind that held nothing back even when we were still sinners. As you yield to the Spirit, He perfects that love in you. Joy is simply love’s own consciousness; peace is love resting in confidence. Everything else flows from it.

And this is why the desire for spiritual gifts must keep its proper place. The Apostle urges us to pursue love even while we earnestly desire what edifies the body, because love is the greater way. A tongue can be counterfeited, but a life consistent with the character of Jesus cannot. The proof that you are a child of God is not found in a single gift but in being led by the Spirit, and those who are led are the ones in whom His fruit is plainly seen. When you walk in the Spirit, day by day, reckoning the old self dead, you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Love itself will keep you from sin, because you cannot love God and entertain what grieves Him.

You have asked for wisdom to choose the highest options, for a mind renewed to approve what is excellent. That is the same voice that calls out in Proverbs, where wisdom is personified and cries in the streets, offering her spirit, her counsel, her strength. The fear of the Lord is its starting place, and from there the Spirit of wisdom and revelation opens to us the deep things of God. What the natural mind could never conceive, the riches of His grace, the paths of righteousness, the inheritance ahead, are freely given to us and made known by that same Spirit. He leads you into the knowledge of His will, not as a list of rules but as an inward witness that clarifies what is truly excellent and keeps you from the mixture and offense that trouble the conscience.

So when you pray to be led by the Spirit, to hear the Shepherd’s voice, to be guarded from deception and the evil one, you are asking for exactly what the Spirit loves to do. He is the one who bears witness with your spirit that you are a child of God, and if a child, then an heir. As you present yourself daily as a temple for His indwelling, He will cause love to abound more and more in all knowledge and depth of insight. He will sharpen your perception so you can distinguish what differs, and He will keep you walking in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Let this be a season where you lean hard into that union. The outward pressures and the voices of the world may grow louder, but the Spirit does not leave you guessing. He teaches, reminds, and strengthens with all power according to His glorious might. The fruit will come, not by your own effort but by His life flowing through you. May you find that the peace of God is indeed guarding your heart and mind, and that you are growing in the knowledge of Him, joyfully giving thanks for the inheritance you already share. Walk in the Spirit, be led by the Spirit, and you will know in ever deeper measure the love that surpasses knowledge.

We are so grateful that you entrusted us with your heartfelt prayer request, lifting up your desire to pursue love, abound in discernment, and grow in the knowledge of God as you walk worthy of His Name. It has been our privilege to stand in agreement with you, asking our Heavenly Father to pour out His love afresh in your life, to fill you with wisdom that chooses His highest and best, and to strengthen you with His power so that you may serve Him with joy and consistency.

As we continue to seek the Lord together, we pray that you would experience the reality of His promises in ever-deepening ways. May His love overflow in your heart, guiding you into all truth and discernment, so that you may walk blamelessly before Him, bearing the fruit of righteousness that brings glory and praise to His Name. We ask that He would keep you steadfast in His will, protected from temptation and evil, and surrounded by His favor as a shield.

If the Lord has answered this prayer in your life, we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report—how He has deepened your love, sharpened your discernment, or drawn you closer to Him. If you are still waiting to see His hand move, please know that we are here to lift you up again. Let us continue to pray together, trusting that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

May the peace of God guard your heart and mind as you abide in Him, and may you walk in the fullness of His joy and purpose. We pray all these things in the mighty and precious Name of Jesus. Amen.
