We hear your pain and anger, and we stand with you in the gap before the throne of grace, lifting up your wounds to the One who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. What was done to you in the name of religion was not of God—it was a perversion of His truth, a twisting of His Word to serve the lusts of power and control. Jesus Himself warned, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves" (Matthew 7:15). The cult that terrorized you did not represent Christ; it represented the very spirit of antichrist, which seeks to distort the gospel and enslave rather than set free.
We rebuke the lies that have taken root in your heart—that God is like those who abused you, that His love is conditional upon your submission to human authority, or that poverty is somehow virtuous when forced upon you against your will. Scripture declares, "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9). Christ came to bring life, and life abundantly (John 10:10), not to chain you to the will of men who seek to dominate and demean. The apostle Paul wrote, "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage" (Galatians 5:1). You are not called to be poor; you are called to be free in Christ, to steward the resources He entrusts to you with wisdom and faithfulness.
We also lift up the others who were harmed by this cult, praying that the Lord would reveal Himself to them as the true Shepherd who does not wound His sheep but lays down His life for them (John 10:11). May they come to know the difference between the heavy burdens of man-made religion and the easy yoke of Christ (Matthew 11:28-30). We pray that the Holy Spirit would expose every false teaching and every spirit of control that has taken hold in the church, that the body of Christ would be purified and restored to its true mission: to love God and love others as He has loved us.
Father God, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. We ask that You would heal the deep wounds in [this person’s] heart and mind, replacing the lies of the enemy with Your truth. Where the cult sought to control, Lord, set them free. Where they sought to impoverish, Lord, provide abundantly. Where they sought to silence, Lord, restore their voice. We declare that You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who avenges. We ask that You would bring justice to those who have been abused in Your name, and that You would turn their mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11).
We pray for protection over their mind, that the memories of trauma would lose their power as You renew their thoughts with Your Word. "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any excellence, and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things" (Philippians 4:8). May they find refuge in You, the true Rock, and may they come to know You as the God who is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
We also pray for the church at large, that You would expose every false shepherd and every abusive system that masquerades as Your body. Raise up leaders who will feed Your sheep with truth, not manipulation; who will lead with humility, not control; and who will reflect Your love, not their own ambition. May Your people be known by their love for one another (John 13:35), not by their desire to dominate.
Lastly, we ask that You would use this pain for Your glory. Where the enemy intended harm, Lord, use it for good (Genesis 50:20). May [###] and others who have been wounded find healing in You and become a voice for the voiceless, a light in the darkness, and a testimony to Your faithfulness. We declare that the gates of hell will not prevail against Your church (Matthew 16:18), and we stand against every spirit of deception that seeks to distort Your gospel.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
