We are so thankful you shared Psalm 32:7 with us, for it is a beautiful declaration of trust and rest in the Lord. You are a hiding place for me. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

We love how this psalm reminds us that God Himself is our refuge. This was written by David after he had confessed his sin and received forgiveness, as he says earlier, Blessed is he whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is covered Psalm 32:1 and I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn’t hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin Psalm 32:5. It is in that place of honesty and forgiveness that we find God is not distant but is our hiding place. He does not just hide us from trouble but preserves us through it and surrounds us with joy and deliverance.

We are encouraged with you that our God is a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1 and that He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. We will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust Psalm 91:1-2. The word Selah invites us to pause and reflect on this truth, to let it sink deep into our hearts that we are kept, we are covered, and we are surrounded by His mercy.

Father, we thank You that You are our hiding place. We thank You that You preserve us from trouble and that You surround us with songs of deliverance. We ask that You make this truth real in the heart of the one who shared this verse and in all who read it. Help us to run to You first, to dwell in Your presence, and to trust not in our own strength but in Your faithful keeping. When trouble comes, remind us that we are held and not forsaken, and let our mouths be filled with songs of praise for Your deliverance. Teach us to pause and Selah, to be still and know that You are God. We ask this in the name of Jesus.

We also want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to this hiding place and to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Because we have all sinned and need forgiveness as David did in this psalm, we encourage you to put your trust fully in Jesus, believing that God raised Him from the dead and confessing Him as Lord, for If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is through Him that our sin is covered and we can boldly dwell in the shelter of the Most High.

We pray you will continue to hide yourself in Him daily through prayer and His Word, and that you will hear His songs of deliverance over your life with ever increasing joy.

There is a blessed music in the verse you have laid upon your heart, and well may you make it your prayer. You are my hiding place, you shall preserve me from trouble, you shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Think first what it is to have God himself for a hiding place. It is not a doctrine only, but a refuge to run into. As the cities of refuge were appointed of old that the pursued one might flee and be safe from the avenger, so Christ Jesus is provided, and he is near to every soul that seeks him. There is not six Christs, but there is one Christ everywhere, accessible at every moment, and whosoever casts himself upon him in faith is preserved. He is the freeman whom the truth makes free, for he has cast himself upon his God in Christ and since God has made him free, he is free indeed.

To call upon him in the day of trouble is itself an honor to God. Outward devotions may suppose a God, but prayer in the day of trouble proves that God is a fact to the supplicant. It is heart language addressed to the great Father, the soul really speaking and holding converse with God, and the righteous cry and the Lord hears. Little as that act of calling seems to be, it puts crowns upon all the attributes of God. You honor his mercy and his power and his faithfulness when with a true heart you draw nigh unto him.

And what a promise is coupled with that call, I will deliver you. The deliverance is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. God alone can take away the iron when it enters into the soul, and he has found the way of deliverance himself. I have found a ransom, saith the Lord. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance of a sinner from the pit through a ransom if God had not thought of it, and now that he has provided it in the slain Lamb, he makes deliverance effectual and in very deed he brings forth his people. Will you point a finger at your God and say his word is not to be trusted, that he will give a promise and break it. Far from it. He who has said, In the world ye shall have tribulation, has also said he will preserve you in it and bring you through it.

Therefore rest your soul upon him. If trouble surrounds you now, remember that trouble itself is no sign that God has forsaken you. He scourges his children but he does not slay them, he chastens but he preserves. And when he delivers, he will surround you with songs. This golden book is full of promises suitable to every case, and the God of the book will turn your sighs into psalms. Tried Christians see how God sustains in trouble and how he delivers out of it, and they cannot help declaring his works openly. You shall yet sing because you were hidden, and preserved, and brought forth.

May the Lord give you to know this hiding place more fully, which is Christ Jesus the Lord. Flee into him anew, abide in him, and let your prayer be continual communion with him. He will preserve you from the trouble that would destroy you, and in his own time and way he will compass you about with songs of deliverance, so that you shall declare his name and his praise with a grateful heart. Selah, pause and consider this, and let your soul rest in it.

Psalm 32:7 gives us a precious truth to hold fast, that God Himself is our hiding place. When you bring this verse in prayer, you are taking refuge in the right place, not in our own strength or wisdom, but in the will and mercy of God.

This psalm was written by one who had known sin and then known forgiveness, and so it reminds us that our hiding place is found through confession and through Christ alone. He preserves us from trouble, not always by removing every danger at once, but by keeping us in the midst of it and setting us above it. He does not always promise deliverance from death or trial, but He gives what is greater, the strength to despise fear and to rest in the hope of immortality through Him. Even Christ in His human nature knew what it was to have His soul troubled, yet He endured for our sake, so that we might have a sure refuge.

To be surrounded with songs of deliverance means that God does not leave us in silence. He puts a song around us, the testimony of His forgiveness, the comfort of His Word, and the encouragement of His people. The word Selah calls us to pause and quietly consider this, to let the truth settle in our hearts.

I pray for you now that the Lord will be your hiding place in every pressure you face. May He preserve you from trouble according to His wise will, keep your heart steady when temptations or anxieties trouble you, and surround you with clear songs of His deliverance so that you hear His grace more loudly than your fears. May He draw you closer to Christ, in whom alone we have forgiveness and sonship, and teach you to rest in Him daily.

Psalm 32:7 is a wonderful promise to cling to, and thank you for sharing it. To call God your hiding place is to say He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Because of that you do not need to fear, even when everything around you feels like it is being shaken or removed. He is not a distant or remote power. He is near, personal, and able to be your shelter in the storm.

In the Old Testament God provided cities of refuge placed throughout the land so that no one was far from safety. The roads were kept clear and signs pointed the way so a person in danger could run and be protected as long as he remained inside. That picture points to what we have in Christ. We have fled to Him for refuge, and as long as we abide in Him we are safe, preserved, and covered. He is the rock that is higher than we are, the fortress where we can rest under His wings.

That is why Scripture so often invites us to call upon Him when trouble comes. God says to call upon Him in the day of trouble and He will deliver, and the result is that we glorify Him. You do not need a substitute when you have the Lord Himself to call upon. He hears even when our distress has come through our own failures or foolish choices. His mercy endures, and when we cry out to Him He brings us out of darkness and breaks the bonds that hold us.

Your verse says He will preserve you and surround you with songs of deliverance. That is the testimony of everyone who has trusted Him at all times and poured out their heart before Him. He not only hides you, He fills the place where you are hidden with joy and praise for what He has done.

May the Lord make this very real to you now. Trust Him at all times, run to Him as your hiding place, call upon Him openly, and remain in Him. He will be with you in trouble, He will preserve and deliver you, and He will give you the songs to sing about it.
