Proverbs, Chapter 1

1:1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

1:2 To know wisdom and instruction; To discern the words of understanding;

1:3 To receive instruction in wise dealing, In righteousness and justice and equity;

1:4 To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion:

1:5 That the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; And that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsels:

1:6 To understand a proverb, and a figure, The words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

1:7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; [but] the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

1:8 My son, hear the instruction of your father, And don't forsake the law of your mother:

1:9 For they will be a chaplet of grace to your head, And chains about your neck.

1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.

1:11 If they say, Come with us, Let us lay in wait for blood; Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;

1:12 Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, And whole, as those who go down into the pit;

1:13 We will find all precious substance; We will fill our houses with spoil;

1:14 You will cast your lot among us; We will all have one bag:

1:15 My son, don't walk in the way with them; Refrain your foot from their path:

1:17 For in vain is the net spread In the sight of any bird:

1:18 And these lay wait for their own blood; They lurk secretly for their own lives.

1:19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain; It takes away the life of its owners.

1:20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street; She utters her voice in the broad places;

1:21 She cries in the most noisy places; At the entrance of the gates, In the city, she utters her words:

1:22 How long, you+ simple ones, will you+ love simplicity? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?

1:23 Turn+ at my reproof: Look, I will cause my spirit to gush out on you+ I will make my words known to you+.

1:24 Because I have called, and you+ have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man has regarded;

1:25 But you+ have set at nothing all my counsel, And would have none of my reproof:

1:26 I also will laugh in [the day of] your+ calamity; I will mock when your+ fear comes;

1:27 When your+ fear comes as a storm, And your+ calamity comes on as a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come upon you+.

1:28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me:

1:29 For they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Yahweh:

1:30 They didn't want my counsel; They despised all my reproof.

1:31 Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices.

1:32 For the backsliding of the simple will slay them, And the careless ease of fools will destroy them.

1:33 But whoever harkens to me will stay securely, And will be quiet without fear of evil.

this verse is saying: Jesus is giving them all his words from the Bible to follow. He's giving them the understanding, directions to follow and they refuse. They meaning those who do not want to listen. those who want to do like they please. At the end the tables will turn. meaning there blind, selfish and living in sin. They will later realized that there ways are not right. that God's words are right. Once they figure that out. It will be to late. God will not respond to there needs. they had there chance now it will be to late. meaning examples if something happens in there family and they want to pray calling on the lord it will be to late he will not respond. Also, it's meaning when he comes it will be to late to get with him. so take heed now.

Learning for me what Christ tells us we must listen The Golden rule, Was it?" Do unto others as they would do unto you." Thanks a definate teaching from my earthly Dad and my heavenly Father Dad..

As I was reading over this wonderful Proverb, I wrote down all the uplifting, good, and sound words scattered throughout--- words describing what the Lord gives to those who rely on Him and His word, and seek to do His will above their own: WISDOM, INSTRUCTION, UNDERSTANDING, DISCERN, PRUDENCE, KNOWLEDGE, DISCRETION, SOUND COUNSELS, LAW, GRACE, REFRAIN (SELF-CONTROL). If you think about it, the world today doesn't care for ANY of these words, which is one reason the Lord recorded them here in the book of Proverbs. May His children be willing to receive godly instruction and to act with godly wisdom and sound counsel, exercising self-control as necessary in this dangerous time.

The lessons here given are plain and teach us how gain knowledge and discretion. Some simple thoughts:

· Fools are persons who have no true wisdom, who follow their own devices, without regard to reason, or reverence for God.

· Wicked people seduce others into the paths of the destroyer and sinners love to bring others in their sin, but the way of sin is down-hill and men cannot stop themselves.

· Men's greediness of gain hurries them upon practices that will not lead to peace or fulfillment.

· Solomon shows how dangerous it is to hearken to the temptations of Satan. I wonder if he was thinking of his father, David. David was the greatest king in history and suffered the greatest fall. He was deceived by Satan into being an adulterer a murderer, and unfit for the throne.

However, David did listen the call of God (remember Nathan – you are the man), sought God’s forgiveness (Psalms 51), and died as a man after God’s own heart. May we be the same!
