Proverbs 3:5

We are so encouraged that you have shared Proverbs 3:5 on your heart, for it is a precious truth that anchors us in every season. We hold fast with you to the full promise, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

We love how this verse calls us to trust not partially or when it feels comfortable, but with all our heart. To lean not on our own understanding means we lay down our own reasoning, our fears, and our desire to control outcomes, and we rest instead on the character and wisdom of God. His thoughts and ways are higher than ours, as it is written For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says Yahweh. Isaiah 55:8-9 When we acknowledge Him in all our ways, through prayer, obedience, and seeking His Word, He lovingly directs our steps even when the path ahead is unclear.

We also want to gently share something essential with you, because your request mentions the Lord but does not mention Jesus. We want you to know that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can truly trust Him for salvation and for daily leading. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 To trust in the Lord with all our heart begins with trusting in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins, believing that He died and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 If you have not yet done so, we encourage you to place your complete trust in Him today.

We pray together with you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You with thanksgiving for Your Word and for Your faithful love. We ask You to help our dear friend and help us all to trust You with all our hearts and not to lean on our own understanding. Teach us to acknowledge You in every area of our lives, in our decisions, our worries, and our hopes, so that You may make our paths straight according to Your perfect will. Where we have relied on our own wisdom, forgive us and draw us closer to You. Fill us with Your peace that passes understanding as we rest in You, for You have said You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 We pray that anyone who does not yet know Jesus as Savior will call upon His name and be saved. Lead us and guide us by Your Spirit, that we may walk in Your truth and bring glory to You. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue meditating on this promise and to bring every care to Him in prayer. He is trustworthy and He cares deeply for you. As you wait on Him, remember that those who trust in Yahweh are blessed, for their trust is in Him. Jeremiah 17:7 We are standing with you in faith that as you trust Him fully, He will faithfully direct your steps.

We're grateful you shared what's on your heart. Wanting to trust the Lord with your whole heart instead of relying only on your own understanding is a good and honest desire, and it also takes real humility when answers aren't clear.

We know that tension of wanting to follow Him faithfully without having guarantees up front, while also trying to sort out which thoughts are His leading and which are just our own worries, hopes, or familiar voices from the past. Getting to know ourselves a little better, our motives and the pressures we feel, can actually help us listen more clearly and not confuse our own urgency with His direction.

One simple practice that may help this week is to take one specific decision or concern where you feel that tug to figure it all out yourself, write down honestly what you hope will happen and what you fear will happen, and bring that page to the Lord in prayer. Then consider sharing it with one mature believer who knows you and can listen and pray with you, not to tell you what to do but to help you hear more clearly.

Father, we lift them to You. Give wisdom for each step ahead and peace in trusting You even when understanding is incomplete. Draw them close to Jesus and make Your way clear in Your timing. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

This is a precious word which you have laid before the Lord, and it is a word to live upon. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding is not a mere proverb for comfort, but a counsel for guidance and for grace.

To trust the Lord with all your heart is to cast your whole weight upon Him, to take God at His word and to believe Him. Some think this is presumption, but it is worse than presumption not to believe God, and it is true humility to receive what He has promised in Christ. Where God begins a work He does not ask you to finish, He will complete it. If you can say, I have it straight from the throne of God by trusting in the blood of Jesus Christ, then you have it from headquarters and there can be no mistake about it.

To lean not on your own understanding is to make an unconditional surrender to Him. It is to exercise humility and to say, Lord God, I own You now to be King, and I yield as reason and grace suggest. Our own wisdom is hasty and obstinate, and haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. But the grace of God dethrones obstinacy and gives in its place acquiescence in the divine will, and by bowing with submission to the will of God we are furnished with unerring guidance.

How then does God guide those who thus trust Him. First by the general directions of His word. You need to know what God would have you to do, and there you will find it. Next by principles infused in the heart by His Spirit, to avoid everything that is evil, to exercise self denial, faith, humility and contentment. And then by His own counsel day by day as you declare your ways to Him and He hears you. It ought to be the daily habit of the believer to commune with his God and to make Him his confidant in all things, for you will go amiss if you do not wait upon the Lord for guidance.

May the Lord teach you His statutes and guide you with His counsel in this matter. May He keep you from trusting in anything that you will never find apart from Christ, and bring you to find Him to be as real as if you could see Him. May you so trust Him as to love Him, and so love Him as to labor for Him, and may He give you present peace and the rejoicing in hope of the glory of God.

We pray that the Lord will increase your faith, that you may trust Him wholly, submit yourself wholly to Him, and walk in the light of His word, looking to Jesus Christ alone for salvation and for strength to obey. May He who has begun a good work in you perform it until the day of Jesus Christ, and may you know the rest that remains for the people of God.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is good that you have set your heart on this word from Proverbs, to trust in the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding. That desire itself is a work of grace, and it is pleasing to God when we bring it to Him in prayer.

Faith needs a generous and vigorous soul, one that rises above what the senses tell us and passes beyond the weakness of human reasoning. We cannot truly believe otherwise than by lifting our thoughts above the common customs of the world and committing all to God. To lean not on your own understanding does not mean that you stop using the mind God gave you, but that you do not measure the power and goodness of God by human reasonings. You commit all to faith and give glory to God, even when nature holds out no hope.

We see this in Abraham, who staggered not at the promise though hindrances were great. He did not doubt or hesitate, but was strong in faith because he trusted the matter to faith and not to reasonings. In the same way, without faith it is impossible to please Him, for we must believe that He is and that He rewards those who seek Him. Faith itself is the gift of God, and He wills that this faith should save us, not that we should remain barren and without work, but that our trust should bear fruit in obedience and love.

So I encourage you to draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith. Come with humility, for God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble, and a broken and humbled heart He will not despise. When thoughts of unbelief press in, thrust them aside with a soul made strong by trusting His word more than your own calculations.

Let us pray together. Father, we thank You that You have revealed Yourself in Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and peace with You. Give to this dear one a deeper trust in You with all the heart. Teach them to turn from leaning on their own understanding and to rest on Your wisdom, Your power and Your providential care. Strengthen their faith, make it vigorous and steadfast, and help them to give You glory in all things. Lead them to walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, that the righteousness You desire may be fulfilled in their life. Keep them in Your grace and grow them in humility and love, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
