Beloved of All
Your prayer shows a deep love for your children and a sincere desire to see your home covered by the presence and protection of God, and that desire is right and good. The longing for peace that goes beyond understanding, for safety in every room and for your children to walk in purpose and favor, comes from a heart that wants God at the center of your family.
Scripture teaches that your relationship with God is the foundation for every other relationship. The first commands concern how we relate to Him, and only when that vertical relationship is right can our relationships with one another be set in order. When the center is right, everything else begins to find its proper balance. God does not want merely a formal or legal connection with you. He wants a loving relationship. Through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, full of grace and truth, He has made a way for you to be brought into His family. Jesus alone is begotten of the Father. We become children of God by adoption, born again by the Spirit. Because He who was rich became poor for our sake, we who were outside can now cry Abba, Father, and live not as servants without privilege but as sons and heirs through Christ. That adoption is your confidence as you pray for your home.
Because you are in Christ, you can ask for His peace and protection with assurance. He is your refuge, and He does give His angels charge and provides the armor to stand against spiritual opposition. To walk in that protection is to walk in fellowship with Him, honoring the Son as you honor the Father, for no one knows the Father except through the Son and those to whom the Son reveals Him. When that relationship is alive and loving, you are given wisdom to discern what is of God and what is not, and to stand in the freedom that the Son gives, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
I join you in praying for your son. We can and should bring physical needs to Jesus and trust Him for healing, for healing belongs to Him both for soul and body. At the same time Scripture shows that God does not bring complete physical healing in every case in this life, as we see even with faithful companions in the New Testament who continued to struggle with bodily weakness. This does not mean we stop praying. It means we pray with both faith and trust, asking for His mercy and restoration, whether through a miraculous touch or through His sustaining grace, and trusting His wisdom to do what is best for your son's peace, calm and joy. Pray that the Lord will quiet distressing memories and habits, and form in him gentleness, calm and a satisfied heart, and that wherever he goes he would reflect the light of Christ.
I also hear your burden for your daughters and for unity in your home. God places great importance on the family bond and on honor and respect between parents and children. A home where hearts are united in love and respect is a picture of the oneness God desires. That unity is strengthened when each person seeks the Lord first.
Regarding your older daughter, your discernment is right to be concerned. Living together outside of marriage is not marriage in God's eyes, and it does not carry the covenant rights or responsibilities of marriage. Scripture reserves sexual union and the shared life of a household as husband and wife for the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman. For that reason we cannot ask God to bless or affirm that arrangement as it is. Instead we can pray that God will bring clarity, conviction and courage. Pray that she will see her worth in Christ alone, not in the approval of another person or family, that every unhealthy tie that pulls her away from faith, family, work and sound judgment would be broken, and that she would be given wisdom to make choices that honor God, respect her family, and guard her future. Pray that controlling, manipulative or deceptive influences would lose their power, that prideful interference from others would be exposed and frustrated, and that she would not feel compelled to obey or imitate patterns that dishonor the Lord. The right path for her is not to follow another person's direction as if married, but to seek the Lord's will for her life as a single person under His care and under the loving support of her family.
For your younger daughter as she begins her schooling, and for your older daughter at work, pray that God would surround them with godly friendships, give them focus, strength and favor in their studies and labor, and keep them from exhaustion and confusion. Ask that they would be beacons of light in their workplaces through kindness, integrity and a pure life.
For your home as a whole, pray that the Lord would remove fear and chaos and fill your home with His Spirit, so that your words are kind, your thoughts are pure, and your actions are guided by Him. Pray that any scheme to bring division or isolation would fail, and that love, patience and understanding would grow between you and your children. Remember that following Jesus can sometimes create tension even within families, and you may feel that alienation deeply, but those who belong to the family of God find a deeper and lasting bond in Christ that sustains them through such trials.
May the Lord establish you in His love, keep your home in His peace, and help you to walk each day as His adopted child, an heir through Christ, trusting the only begotten Son who alone brings forgiveness and new life.
