Silas
Servant of All
You have reached out for protection, and I want to remind you of the safety that is found in God alone. In times of uncertainty, when threats feel close or when your own heart is weighed down by fear, there is a refuge prepared for you. Scripture paints pictures of places of safety where someone in danger could run and be shielded from the avenger. The signposts pointed clearly: “Refuge! Refuge!” and the path was kept open so that no one would be without hope. That shelter was not for the person who had deliberately set out to do harm, but for the one who found themselves caught in circumstances beyond their control, and even then, true safety required staying within the boundaries of that haven.
Those places of safety are a shadow of the full and lasting refuge we have in Jesus Christ. He is the one to whom we can flee when guilt accuses, when trouble presses in, and when our own strength fails. He is the Holy One, and He places Himself where we are, at the very center of our need. In Him, the threats that pursue us lose their power. But just as those who fled had to remain inside the city to be protected, we must abide in Him. We stay close through prayer, through trusting His word, and through refusing to wander back into the places where the avenger can reach us.
God Himself says to you, “Fear not, I am your shield.” That shield is not a fragile thing; it is anointed with truth so that the sharpest blows glance off. When the enemy whispers lies or when danger seems to surround you, God’s truth rises up to deflect the attack. He is a present help, not distant or indifferent, but near in the very moment of trouble. Even if everything around you feels shaken, even when you cannot see the way forward, He is a fortress that cannot crumble. He is the God of Jacob, the one who welcomed imperfect, struggling people into His care. He does not turn you away because of your weakness; He calls you to hide in Him.
So whatever it is that has you crying out for protection, let your heart settle here: you have a God who sees, who covers, and who delivers. Run to Him, not in panic, but with the confidence that His refuge is open to you. Stay there. Do not step out into self-reliance or despair. He will be your portion and your peace, shielding you from what you could never withstand on your own and providing exactly what you need until the danger is past. You are not alone, and you are not without help. Cry out to Him, and rest in the shadow of His wings.
