Protection from spiritual attacks

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Please pray for protection from relentless attacks on body and mind causing disturbances in sleep, in Jesus name Amen

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this urgent cry for protection from spiritual attacks that are afflicting both body and mind. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but we stand firm on the promise that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). These disturbances in sleep and the relentless assaults are not of God, for He gives His beloved sleep (Psalm 127:2) and offers peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We rebuke every spirit of fear, torment, and oppression in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. The Word declares that we have authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). We take up the full armor of God, truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God, so that we may stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11-17). No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment, you shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who has overcome the world. We ask for Your divine protection over this dear one who is under attack. Lord, surround them with Your angels, as You command them to encamp around those who fear You (Psalm 34:7). Shield their mind from the lies and deceptions of the enemy, and let Your peace guard their heart and thoughts in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We break every assignment of the enemy against their sleep, their body, and their mind, and we declare that they will rest in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1).

Father, we plead the blood of Jesus over every area of their life. Let no evil come near their dwelling, and let Your light expose and drive out every darkness (John 1:5). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and remind them that You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in victory and stand firm against every attack.

We also encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer and in the Word. The enemy seeks to wear you down, but resist him, firm in your faith (1 Peter 5:9). Speak the Word of God over your life, for it is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Surround yourself with fellow believers who can stand with you in prayer and encouragement. Do not isolate yourself, for where two or three are gathered in Jesus’ name, He is there in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20).

Remember, the battle belongs to the Lord. You are not fighting alone. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still and trust in Him (Exodus 14:14). Stand firm, dear one, and let the peace of God rule in your heart. You are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you (Romans 8:37).

We hear how draining it is when night after night feels like a battlefield, with your body and mind under assault and sleep pulled away. It’s a particularly cunning kind of attack, because sleep is one of God’s tender ways of refreshing our souls and wrapping us in a peace we can’t manufacture on our own. When that is stolen, it leaves us weary and off-balance. So we are standing with you in this.

One thing we’ve seen help others in similar struggles is to fill the space around sleep with what is true and beautiful. Some find that playing gentle, Scripture-based worship music or a psalm read softly in the background at bedtime quiets the mental noise and pushes back the darkness. It’s not a magic charm, but a way of anchoring your rest in what is real when your own mind feels tossed. Even a simple, whispered prayer, “Jesus, my peace”, in the middle of a wakeful hour can be a small but steady act of trust.

We also want to simply remind you that you do not have to face this alone. Let a trusted prayer partner or pastor know what you are walking through. Knowing others are praying for you, and sometimes praying with you, can strengthen your heart for the night ahead.

Let us hold you up right now.

Lord Jesus, we ask for Your strong protection over this one tonight. Silence the voices and pressure that disturb body and mind, and command anything that does not come from You to leave. Let Your peace settle deeply into this room and into this heart. Grant sleep that restores, and let waking moments be filled with a quiet awareness of Your presence. Shield them through the night hours, and give them fresh strength for the day to come. We trust in Your name and authority. Amen.

You are enduring a sore trial of the flesh and the spirit, and the enemy would rob you of that sweet rest which the Lord giveth to His beloved. These attacks upon the body and the mind, disturbing your slumber, are no strange thing to the flock. Remember, Great-Heart went with Miss Much-Afraid and Mr. Feeble-Mind on the road to the Celestial City, and his hands were full; yet the Shepherd did not cast them off. You are yet in the body, and exempt from no ailment to which your fellow creatures are prone, but our Lord Jesus is very patient. He does not mind taking trouble. He has laid down His life for you, and is prepared to exercise all His Divine power to bring you home.

Sleep is the gift of God; it is He who steeps the mind in a holy forgetfulness, that the body may be refreshed for the morrow’s battle. Yet there be things in the ear and the brain which will not let you sleep unless the Lord Himself speaks peace to the troubled sea. The enemy would whisper fears, that you might say, “Oh, the lions will have me!” But know this: that in the day you surrendered your soul to the Savior, you gave Him your body, your soul, your spirit, all you had and all you shall have for time and for eternity. He who found Philip and saw Nathanael under the fig tree knows the secret struggle of this night season, and no one else may ever know. That is a secret between Christ and your own heart.

Cast yourself upon Him anew. The Gospel exactly suits your case: come to Jesus just as you are. He has made a covenant, and He has kept it to the utmost jot and tittle. The eternal Father is now engaged to fulfill His portion toward all who are in Christ. Therefore, when you cannot sleep, turn not to the narcotic of anxious self-reliance, but let your watchfulness be a holy waiting upon your God. Sleeping guards invite the enemy, but a soul that stays its mind on Jesus is kept in perfect peace. Though the door around you be wet with sorrow, you, like Gideon’s fleece, may be dry, resting in the promise.

The body is a home for the living, thinking mind; it groans now, being burdened, but we look for the redemption of the body. Call it no wretched encumbrance, for it is the temple of God, and He can bid it slumber. Remember that the sleep of death itself is but a rest for the weary limbs, and how much more shall the living, breathing frame find its quietness in the hand of the Good Shepherd? He feeds His flock and causes them to lie down. Hear His voice in the night watches: it is marrow and fatness to the soul, even when the platter of our outward circumstances seems poor.

Be lowly, for the Lord sets His face against all boastings and confidences other than a trust in the finished work of Christ. You that are broken in pieces, willing to take any dole of mercy He is pleased to give, you are the one He will lift up. The great transgression of pride and the evil imagination of unbelief clasp together and the flames of distress arise; but the water of the Spirit quenches those fires. Therefore, away with the fear that He will disown you: He never will! The Spirit who gave you that sense of need and sinfulness is the same who goes forth in the name of Jesus to deal with you in mercy. Trust Him for the sleep of the body and the rest of the mind, and let your groaning turn into the leaping of a lame man made whole, as you enter His temple with praise. He will make for Himself a glorious and everlasting name in your deliverance.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The attacks you endure on body and mind, especially robbing you of sleep, are not mere chance. Often the soul’s turmoil at night is the echo of the day’s excess or unchecked cares. When the body is weighed down by surfeiting, the mind cannot rise; repletion brings oppression and a sleep like death, or else sleeplessness itself, leaving you to curse the belly when you ought to curb immoderate living. Examine, then, what you carry into your rest. Do you lie down with a heart still seething from worldly anxieties, from covetous bargains, from the clamor of passions? Such a soul is like the sea that never knows calm, one wave of fear, another of despondency, and fresh disturbances breaking before the old have ceased. This is not the peace God intends for His own.

Yet I would not have you think the essence of your body or soul is to blame; these are God’s works, and good. The disturbance springs from the bent of your will, that motion from within which we ourselves direct. So direct it now to Christ who, in His own agony, did not shrink back but said, “Glorify Thy Name.” He allowed Himself to feel the dread of suffering, that He might teach you to press forward even when every human feeling longs to cling to safety. Call upon that Name in the night watches. When sleep flees, rise up and set your mind on things above, where Christ is seated. You are a member of His body, and no member is severed from the Head. The same Head that passed through death and now is adored by angels is yours, and you are His. Shall He not shield His own flesh?

Fashion your soul, then, like those true eunuchs for the King, wakeful, sharp‑sighted, not supine nor soft. Let the fear of God lie gently upon you, so that your sleep is not a drowning of the mind but a decent, ordered rest. As soon as you open your eyes, be collected, as one long awake in virtue. The haven is near; the tempest may roar, but inside the chamber where the will is fixed on Jesus, the waves cannot swallow you. He who gave His Body and Blood for you will not suffer the enemy to snatch away His own. Rise from prayer with this assurance: the disturbance is permitted that you might learn to cling the tighter. Soon, the peace that passes understanding will guard your heart and mind, and your bed will become a place of rest, not of battle.

When spiritual attacks target your body and mind, especially stealing your sleep, it helps to step back and remember how God made you. You are spirit, mind, and body. The real you is spirit, and your body is simply the instrument God gave you to express yourself in this world. The enemy knows this structure, and he loves to assault your body and your thoughts because they are the places where you feel things most acutely. But the battle is always ultimately about what controls your mind. Will it be ruled by the clamoring of a tired, afflicted body, or will it be anchored in the Spirit and the truth of God’s Word?

There is a war inside every believer. Your spirit, made alive in Christ, yearns for the things of God, while your flesh, with all its natural drives and vulnerabilities, fights to pull your mind back down into constant worry over what you feel. Lack of sleep makes that tug of war far more intense. The mind, when exhausted, becomes more susceptible to the deceptive whispers of the enemy. But you are not merely a body that needs rest. You are a spirit being, and the truth of Scripture is the shield God has given you. When Jesus was attacked by the enemy, He did not argue with His own feelings; He declared, “It is written.” God’s truth is your buckler. As you lay down at night, present your body to God as a living sacrifice, not by focusing on the discomfort, but by filling your mind with His promises. Set your mind on things above, not on the physical sensations that scream for attention.

That relentless disturbance is the enemy trying to keep you in a state where your mind is fixated on the needs of the body. But recall that the ultimate freedom from a body that requires sleep is coming. One day, you will be clothed with a new body that is not subject to decay, pain, or weariness, a spiritual body like that of the risen Christ, which does not groan under the limitations you feel tonight. For now, you groan in this tent, earnestly desiring to be free from it, not to be disembodied, but to be fully clothed with the building from heaven. That hope can quiet your mind even when the body remains restless.

So pray not only for protection, but with understanding. Ask the Lord to preserve your whole spirit, soul, and body blameless. This is not just about a good night’s sleep; it is about your mind being renewed and governed by the Spirit rather than by the bodily symptoms of attack. When the mind is stayed on the Lord, kept by His peace, the body may still feel the assault, but your inner man can rest in the shadow of the Almighty. The truth you trust becomes your shield, and the enemy’s power to terrify your thoughts is broken.

You are not by yourself in this. Every part of Christ’s body suffers with you when one member is hurting. Your brothers and sisters are standing with you in prayer, and the Lord Himself is your refuge. Speak His truth aloud when the darkness presses in. Declare that because you are in Christ, sin no longer reigns in your mortal body. Reckon yourself dead indeed to the control of fear and alive unto God. As you do, you will discover that the perfect will of God includes rest for your soul, even on the hardest nights.
