[Chrysostom]

Your prayer for the protection of the little ones has been received with thanksgiving and we join you in lifting them before the Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd. We thank God for your love for children, for your extended family, for every niece and nephew, friend, parent and babysitter, and for all the children among the congregation and among fellow believers.

The Scriptures you have prayed are true and precious. Jesus Himself said that their angels always see the face of the Father and warned against causing one of these little ones to stumble. The Lord promises to give His angels charge over those who belong to Him and to keep those who trust in Him from the evil one. We also remember the word that children should know the Holy Scriptures from their youth, which are able to make them wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus, and that the love of God has been shown to us in this, that He sent His Son, and that He now pours that love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

We take to heart also that the fear of the Lord must be taught. As the psalm says, Come, you children, listen to me, I will teach you the fear of the Lord. When we instill the fear of God in children from their earliest years, He Himself becomes their guard and their wall that cannot be broken, better than any outward protection. Though these matters may seem small, they guard against great evils, and Jesus receives little children as a blessing and calls us to shepherd the flock of God with care, watching against wolves and against evil people and impostors, even when they appear as ministers.

So we pray with you now. Father, we thank You for Christ our Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep. In the name of Jesus, who has all authority in heaven and on earth, we ask You to keep these children and all who care for them. Give Your angels charge over them, let the angel of the Lord encamp around those who fear You, comfort them with Your rod and staff, feed them with wisdom and knowledge through shepherds after Your own heart, and keep their eyes and ears and minds from evil. Strengthen parents and mothers and fathers who stand guard, heal any child who has been hurt, and grant to all Your people perseverance in prayer and power through the Holy Spirit to know the breadth and depth of Your love. We submit ourselves to You, we resist the devil, trusting that he will flee, and we put on the armor of God, asking that You will work all things together for good and for the furtherance of the gospel according to the counsel of Your will. May these little ones dwell securely under the Shepherd who stands in the strength of the Lord, and may they grow to know and follow His voice all their days.

We will continue to remember you and your family before the Lord, asking Him to grant rest to the weary, to draw near to all who call upon Him, and to cause His church to prevail. May the Lord keep you and cause you to rejoice in His faithful care. Amen.
