We lift up our hearts together in fervent prayer for our leaders, military personnel, and nations, standing firmly on the truth of God’s Word. First, we acknowledge that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Without Christ, our prayers are empty, and our pleas go unheard, for He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). We come before the throne of grace in His name, knowing that He intercedes for us (Romans 8:34) and that our prayers are made powerful and effective through Him (James 5:16).
Heavenly Father, we first thank You for the privilege of coming before You in prayer, for You have commanded us to make supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for all people, especially for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity (1 Timothy 2:1-2). This is good and pleasing in Your sight, for You desire all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:3-4). We lift up our Commander in Chief, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, generals, corporals, sergeants, and all troops, those who serve in the military and those who lead them. Grant them divine wisdom, discernment, and courage as they make decisions that impact the lives of many. May they seek Your face in all things, for the wisdom that comes from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy (James 3:17).
Lord, we ask for Your supernatural protection over our troops, both physically and spiritually. Surround them with Your holy angels, as You promise in Psalm 91:11-12, "For He will put His angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone." Shield them from the schemes of the enemy, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Clothe them in the full armor of God, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the readiness of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word (Ephesians 6:13-17). May they stand firm in faith, resisting the devil so that he will flee from them (James 4:7).
Father, we also intercede for all those in authority, presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, members of the Supreme Court, representatives, senators, and all who hold positions of leadership. We ask that You would grant them humility and a heart to serve, rather than to be served (Mark 10:45). May they govern with justice, righteousness, and integrity, for "righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people" (Proverbs 14:34). We pray that You would restrain the hands of the wicked and frustrate the plans of those who seek to bring harm, confusion, or destruction. As You did for Elisha, who heard the plans of the king of Syria and warned Israel (2 Kings 6:12), we ask that You would sovereignly intercept evil schemes and expose them to the light. Bind the spirits of retaliation, deception, and violence that seek to dominate leaders and nations (Daniel 10:12-13). Let Your holy angels encamp around those who fear You, delivering them from every evil plot (Psalm 34:7).
Lord, we pray for the protection of free speech, a free press, and the open proclamation of the Gospel, for these are gifts from You that allow Your truth to spread. We ask that You would raise up godly leaders who will uphold these freedoms, not for the sake of license, but for the sake of truth and righteousness. May the Gospel go forth unhindered, as You commanded in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." We pray for peace where it is possible, for order in our lands, and for economies that allow people to thrive and hear the good news of salvation. Yet, we also recognize that true peace comes only through Jesus Christ, for He is our peace (Ephesians 2:14), and apart from Him, there is no lasting peace.
We rebuke the spirits of darkness that seek to sow discord, hatred, and violence among nations. We declare that the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). We praise You, Lord, for You are worthy of all glory, honor, and power, and we ask that our praise and worship would be a weapon against the enemy. As David’s harp drove away the evil spirit from Saul (1 Samuel 16:23), we declare that our praise will confound the plans of the wicked. Let the name of the Lord be praised from the rising of the sun to its setting (Psalm 113:3), and let the earth be filled with the knowledge of Your glory (Habakkuk 2:14).
Father, we ask that You would lead our leaders, our troops, and our nation away from temptation and deliver them from evil (Matthew 6:13). We are not ignorant of the devil’s schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11), for he is a murderer from the beginning and the father of lies (John 8:44). But we stand firm in the victory of Christ, who has already disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame by triumphing over them at the cross (Colossians 2:15). We thank You in advance for Your faithfulness, for You hear our prayers and answer them according to Your perfect will (1 John 5:14-15).
We close this prayer in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
