🇺🇸 Protect Generals, Troops, "Save & Guide All in Authority,” 1Tim 2:1-2, Free Speech, Press, Peace & Gospel Proclamation Matt 28:19-20, 1Tim 2:3-4

You call upon many scriptural promises and wage war in the spirit with a fervent tongue, and this zeal for the protection of those in authority and the proclamation of the Gospel is good, for we are commanded to make petitions for all men so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life. But let us be careful that our confidence rests not on the abundance of our words or on a supposed command over the unseen realm, as if the King of Angels awaited our leave to dispatch His hosts. True spiritual might lies in virtue, in a pure life, and in the humble recognition that we are the least of His servants.

When you say, "Let our prayers strengthen holy angels," or speak of binding spirits as though you held the leash, you have taken a sober duty and mingled it with an overbold fancy. Who dares to imagine that his prayer adds a feather’s weight of power to the angelic armies? They stand before the face of God, ever ready, sent forth at His divine command alone, not at the beckoning of mortals who string verses together. The evil one is restrained not by a chorus of shouting, but by the life of the Lord Christ, who, seated at the right hand of Power, ever liveth to make intercession for us. His is the continuous, living advocacy; our task is to cling to Him.

Therefore, I urge you to distinguish between the prayer of a contrite heart and the clamor of a frightened soldier who believes the battle depends on his own noise. You ask for wisdom and protection for generals and rulers, and you do well, for this is a talent of protection given to you. Use it. Contribute this diligence for your neighbor’s advantage, for nothing is so pleasing to God as to live for the common good. But then, having made your request known with thanksgiving, possess your soul in peace. Do you fear they will be overcome by the spirits of darkness? He that spared not His own Son, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? What madness, then, to tremble after praying to a Master who loves with such an intense flame.

Cease from the incantation-like repetition of chapter and verse as if the mere reciting compels a result, for the Lord has obscured this error by saying men think they will be heard for their much speaking. Your love for the troops and the land is noted, but the restoration of order and the open door for the Gospel is God’s work, which He performs through His own sovereign hand. He catches the wise in their own craftiness and can turn the heart of a king like channels of water. Let your primary struggle, therefore, be the inward wrestling against the passion of pride that puffs itself up as if directing the cosmic conflict. Stand fast not by shouting into the sky, but by faith working through love; because if our Lord intercedes not because He lacks dignity but to show the vigor of His love, how much more should our intercession be marked by a quiet and humble submission? Carry this burden with the earnestness of the friend at midnight, but with the serene confidence of a child who knows the Father’s door is already open before the knock is finished.

You are right to bring such a burden before the Father. This kind of intercession for those in authority, for the safety of troops, for open doors for the gospel across the lands echoes the very heart of Scripture. To plead for wisdom over generals and leaders, to ask that the path be cleared so that the good news may run swiftly through every border, that is a prayer God honors. And anchoring it in what He desires, that all people be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth, places everything else in its proper frame.

Yet in the middle of that necessary, urgent war with spiritual darkness, we must be watchful not to let even our warfare become something other than the gospel of grace. The only news that truly sets captives free, the only power that shatters the schemes of the murderer from the beginning, is the message that Jesus Christ has done everything required to reconcile sinners to Himself. This is not a gospel we can upgrade, add to, or trade for a system of striving and pressure. The moment we treat our prayers or our resistance against evil as a means to earn favor or establish a right standing before God, we have fallen from grace. The glorious simplicity remains: the kingdom has drawn near, and the summons is still to repent and believe that good news. That is the proclamation that must go forward without chains.

Your prayer also touches a deep reality: evil must be hated because God hates it. The fear of the Lord begins there, with a refusal to make peace with darkness, whether it parades itself in high places or whispers privately in a soldier’s heart. We live in a season where many have lost that hatred, where what is crooked is often called straight, and laws can shift to protect the very things that destroy a people. When leaders love evil and despise the good, a nation is in grave danger, and its defenders need more than human courage; they need deliverance from the evil one. So it is right to ask the Lord to confuse the plans of those who shed innocent blood and run eagerly toward ruin, and to send His angels as ministers on behalf of those who fear Him.

But remember also that deliverance from evil is not only for the battlefield out there; it is for the tongue, the conscience, the private compromises we all face. The evidence that our prayers are heard and that we walk under the eyes of the Lord is that we ourselves turn from evil and do good, that we seek peace and run after it. If we are suffering, let it be for well-doing and not for our own ungodliness. The same gracious hand that restrains wicked leaders also disciplines His own children, because He will not let us get by with evil indefinitely. He is patient, but He does not overlook.

So keep interceding with thanksgiving. Keep asking for all in authority so that we may live quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and dignity. Keep binding the powers of darkness with the praises of God high on your lips, because the name of the Lord is worthy from the rising of the sun to its going down. But let everything spring from the solid ground of the gospel that was delivered once for all. That good news of the kingdom will indeed be proclaimed as a witness to all nations before the end comes. No strategy of the evil one, no fleet of hostile ships, no decree from any ruler can silence the voice of Jesus calling people out of darkness. He is building His church, and not even the gates of hell will overpower it. In that confidence, your prayers are never in vain.

We are deeply grateful for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for our leaders, troops, and all those in authority. It has been our honor to intercede on their behalf, asking our Heavenly Father for wisdom, protection, and divine guidance as they navigate the challenges before them. We have lifted up the need for free speech, a free press, and the open proclamation of the Gospel, trusting in God’s sovereign plan to bring peace and godliness to the nations.

If the Lord has already answered these prayers in ways we can see or sense, we would be overjoyed to hear a praise report from you. Your testimony would encourage us all and remind us of God’s faithfulness. If, however, the answers seem delayed or unseen, we invite you to post this request again so we may continue to stand in agreement with you, believing that God hears and moves in response to the prayers of His people.

We remain steadfast in our confidence that the Lord is at work, even when we cannot yet perceive it. May He bless you abundantly as you continue to seek Him, and may His angels encamp around those who fear Him, delivering them from every evil scheme. We pray this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus. Amen.
