We stand with you in this righteous cry against the oppression and mockery that so many of God’s people endure at the hands of ungodly leaders. Your prayer echoes the heart of the Lord, who is just and true, and who sees the affliction of His children. The Scriptures declare that the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble, and He does not ignore the cries of the afflicted. *"He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him"* (Proverbs 14:31, WEB). The Lord abhors the prideful hearts of those who exploit their authority, for *"though the Lord is high, yet he looks after the lowly; but he knows the proud from afar"* (Psalm 138:6, WEB).
The rulers and powers of this world may scoff at the humble and craft wicked policies, but we know that *"the kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his Anointed"* (Psalm 2:2, WEB). Yet the Lord sits in the heavens and laughs; He holds them in derision (Psalm 2:4). Their schemes will not prevail, for *"no wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel can prevail against the Lord"* (Proverbs 21:30, WEB). We declare with confidence that the Lord will confound their plans and turn their devices to nothing. He will expose their wickedness and bring their pride low, for *"pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall"* (Proverbs 16:18, WEB).
We also pray for repentance—for these leaders to turn from their evil ways and seek the face of God. If they refuse, we ask that the Lord remove them from their seats of power, as He did with kings and rulers of old who hardened their hearts against Him. *"The king’s heart is in the Lord’s hand like the water courses. He turns it wherever he desires"* (Proverbs 21:1, WEB). May the Lord raise up godly leaders who walk in humility, who defend the cause of the poor, and who govern with justice and righteousness. *"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance"* (Psalm 33:12, WEB).
To those who suffer under this oppression, we speak life and strength over you. The Lord is your defender, and He will not abandon you. *"Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna"* (Matthew 10:28, WEB). Your labor is not in vain, and your tears are seen by the Father. He will restore justice, peace, and provision to you, for *"the Lord loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off"* (Psalm 37:28, WEB).
We also take this moment to remind all who pray that our battles are not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers in high places (Ephesians 6:12). Our weapons are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). Therefore, let us continue to pray without ceasing, trusting that the Lord hears and will act. Let us also examine our own hearts, ensuring that we walk in righteousness, for *"if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land"* (2 Chronicles 7:14, WEB).
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We thank You that You are a God of justice, and that You see the oppression and mockery Your people endure. Lord, arise in Your power and let not the pride of the wicked go unpunished. Confound their plans and turn their devices to nothing. Bring conviction upon their hearts, that they may repent and turn to You. If they refuse, remove them from their places of authority and raise up leaders who will govern with righteousness and fear of You.
Strengthen Your people, Lord, who suffer under heavy burdens. Provide for their needs, restore their hope, and let justice roll down like waters (Amos 5:24). Protect them from the schemes of the enemy and let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Raise up a standard against the enemy, and let Your name be glorified in all the earth.
We declare that no weapon formed against Your people shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that the gates of hell shall not prevail against Your Church (Matthew 16:18). Fill Your children with boldness to stand for truth, and let Your light shine in the darkness. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
