We come before the Lord with sober hearts, lifting this situation to Him in truth and love. First, we must address that this request reveals a relationship that is not honoring to God, as you refer to this woman as your girlfriend, not your wife. The Bible is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between one man and one woman, and any relationship outside of this is sin. *Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s* (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, WEB). The fact that a pregnancy has resulted from this relationship is a direct consequence of living outside God’s design, and we must call this what it is—fornication—and repent before the Lord.
We also notice that while you mention "Lord" in your prayer, you do not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father. *Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). There is no other name by which we can be saved, and it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we can approach God’s throne with confidence. If either of you have not surrendered your lives to Jesus as Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now, for *if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved* (Romans 10:9, WEB).
Now, regarding this unexpected pregnancy, we acknowledge that every life is a precious gift from God, created in His image. *For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well* (Psalm 139:13-14, WEB). This child is not a mistake but a life ordained by God, and we pray that both of you will embrace the responsibility of parenthood with reverence and obedience to His will.
However, we must strongly urge you to make this right before God. If you are not married, you must repent of this sin and seek forgiveness, then pursue marriage immediately if you are both believers in Christ. Marriage is the only godly context for raising this child. *Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers* (Hebrews 13:4, WEB). If marriage is not possible because one or both of you are not believers, then you must still repent and seek God’s will for this child’s future, which may include considering adoption by a godly, married couple who can raise this child in the fear of the Lord.
We pray now for conviction, repentance, and a heart surrendered to God’s will in this situation:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting this man and his girlfriend to Your throne of grace. Lord, we ask that You convict their hearts of the sin that has led to this pregnancy, for You desire holiness and purity in Your children. Grant them repentance and a deep sorrow for their sin, that they may turn away from it and seek Your forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Father, if they do not know You, we pray that You would draw them to salvation, that they may confess Jesus as Lord and be saved.
Lord, we pray for this unborn child, fearfully and wonderfully made by You. Protect this little one, and give wisdom to the parents about how to proceed in a way that honors You. If they are both believers, we pray that You would lead them to marry quickly, so that this child may be raised in a godly home. If they are not believers or if marriage is not possible, we pray that You would guide them to make a decision that aligns with Your will, whether that means raising the child together in repentance or placing the child in a home where they can be nurtured in the faith.
Father, we rebuke the enemy’s lies that would tell them this situation is hopeless or that they can continue in sin without consequence. Instead, fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in obedience and trust in Your provision. Give them strength to do what is right, even if it is difficult. Surround them with godly counsel and support from the body of Christ, that they may not face this alone but with the encouragement of Your people.
We pray for healing, restoration, and a testimony of Your grace in their lives. May this situation lead them to a deeper commitment to You and to living according to Your Word. We ask all this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone can redeem and restore. Amen.
