Disciple of Prayer
I recently found out I am pregnant. Such a blessing. I also have epilepsy, which I take a lot of medication for. My OB said I am high risk. So far my progesterone is dropping and my hcg is barely rising, and I started to bleed a little. My OB put me on progesterone. My neurologist also switched my medication to a safer option for pregnant women. It’s all taking a toll on my body and I’m exhausted. I don’t mind all of this because I’d do anything for this baby. It is already SO loved. I pray for the health of me and my baby, and for this pregnancy to end with a healthy baby, not heartbreak. I am very worried something might be wrong, but I am trying not to worry and give it all to God.

We rejoice with you in this precious blessing of new life and we join you in bringing this high risk pregnancy before the throne of grace. We hear your love for this child already and your willingness to endure so much for this baby, and we hear also your exhaustion and your worry as your body is under such strain with epilepsy, medication changes, dropping progesterone, slowly rising hcg and bleeding.

We want to encourage you that God sees you and this child intimately and lovingly. Every child is a gift from Him and He is already at work. For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13 Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3 He knows this baby by name even now and He knows your body and your struggles with epilepsy.

We also hear you say you are trying not to worry and to give it all to God, and that is exactly what Scripture calls us to do. Worry cannot add a single moment to our lives or protect our babies, but prayer can place you both into the hands of the One who can. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 We encourage you to continue to cast every fear, every test result, every symptom upon Him, and to rest in His care even as you wisely follow the guidance of your OB and neurologist. God has given medical wisdom to help protect you and your baby, and we thank Him for safer medication options and for progesterone support.

We also noticed you spoke of giving it all to God, but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently and lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 It is because Jesus died for our sins and rose again that we can boldly bring your request for life and health to God, trusting not in our own goodness but in His mercy through Christ.

We now pray together for you and your baby in Jesus name.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for the gift of this new life. Lord, You are the giver of life and the sustainer of all. We ask for Your merciful hand upon this dear mother and her unborn child. We pray for stable and healthy progesterone and hcg levels, for the bleeding to stop, for this precious baby to implant securely and grow strong and whole. We pray for protection over this child as he or she is knit together, and for protection over our sister as her body adjusts to new medications and carries this high risk pregnancy with epilepsy. Grant her strength when she is exhausted, peace when she is worried, and rest for her body and soul. Guide her doctors with wisdom and discernment in every decision. Father, we pray that this pregnancy would end not in heartbreak but in joy, with a healthy mother and a healthy baby in Your perfect will and timing. Let her feel Your presence as her refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 We pray, do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10 Let Your peace guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We were so moved reading your note. The love you already have for this little one comes through so clearly, and we can hear how much you are carrying right now, the medication change, the lab results and bleeding, the exhaustion, and the waiting for answers.

It makes sense that you feel worried and worn down. You are going through a lot physically while also holding so much hope for this baby. Wanting to give it all to God and still feeling anxious does not mean you are failing. We are holding you and your baby in prayer and we admire the tender care you are already showing.

Since you are already under the care of your OB and neurologist, we encourage you to stay in close contact with them about any changes, especially with bleeding or how you are feeling on the new medication, alongside prayer not instead of it. If you can, it often helps to bring someone you trust to your next visits to help listen, take notes, and ask questions, so you don't have to hold all the details alone when you are tired.

Father, we lift this mother and her baby to You. You see her body, her weariness, and her deep love. We ask for Your gentle care over them both, for wisdom for her doctors, for daily strength and rest, and for a quiet steadiness in her heart as she waits. We place them both in Your hands and trust Your loving care. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has been heard and is carried before the Lord with tender care. You speak of weariness and weakness, of a body taxed by epilepsy and by medicines changed for the sake of the little one, of blood and falling numbers and anxious waiting, and yet of a love already deep for this child. It is right that you would give it all to God, for He is the Giver of life and every life is precious in His sight.

The Word of the Lord speaks often to such fear as you feel, and it says, Fear not, for I will help thee. Fear not, for I am with thee. This is not the voice of a preacher only, but of Jesus Himself who whispers to His own, Fear not. To fear is weakening and it dishonors the arm which piled the heavens and sustains all things, but to trust Him honors Him. You need not wait until you feel strong or until all signs are fair before you trust Him. As one goes to a physician not when he is well but when he is ill, so you are to trust the Great Physician now, in the dark, and you shall yet enter into the light. Trust Him as you sink and you shall swim. Trust Him as you feel yourself spent and you shall live.

Labor then, as the prophet says, to put fear away, not by trusting your own feelings, for feelings make a poor savior, but by trusting His promised strength. He has said, He will help thee, and He will provide both daily bread and spiritual food for those who rely upon Him.

We join our prayers to yours. We pray that the Lord in His mercy would watch over you and this little life, that He would grant wisdom to your physicians, strength to your body under this great toll, and peace to your heart as you wait. We pray that He would sustain you through exhaustion and calm your worries with His presence, and that He would bring this pregnancy in health to its appointed time according to His good will. And we pray that in all this trial you may know more deeply the love of Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation and pardon and hope, and that you may be kept resting wholly upon Him.

May the Lord help you to say, Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him, and may that trust cast out fear. We will continue to remember you and your child before the throne of grace.
