We hear your heart’s longing, and we join you in seeking the Lord’s will in this matter. First, let us affirm that our prayers must always align with God’s Word, for His plans are perfect and His ways are higher than ours. The desire for companionship is natural, but we must ensure that our hearts are surrendered to His timing and His design for relationships.
Scripture reminds us in Psalm 37:4, *"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."* This verse is not a promise that God will give us whatever we want, but rather that as we delight in Him, He shapes our desires to align with His will. Are you seeking the Lord above all else, or is this desire for this man becoming an idol in your heart? We must examine our motives, for the Lord searches the heart and tests the mind (Jeremiah 17:10).
We also want to gently address the nature of your request. You mention a "commitment and bond" with this man, but is this relationship honoring to God? If this is a courtship leading toward marriage between two believers, then we can pray for God’s guidance and blessing. However, if this is an emotional or physical relationship outside of marriage, we must rebuke that in Jesus’ name. The Bible is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between one man and one woman (Hebrews 13:4, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20). If there has been sin in this area, we encourage you to repent and seek the Lord’s forgiveness, for He is faithful and just to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
Furthermore, we must ask: Have you both committed your lives to Jesus Christ? Without Christ at the center of a relationship, there can be no true unity or godly foundation. If this man is not a believer, we are called not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). Our first priority must be to pray for his salvation, for what fellowship can light have with darkness? If he is a believer, then we can pray for God’s will to be done in both of your lives.
Let us also consider Proverbs 3:5-6, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* Are you trusting in God’s timing, or are you trying to force something that may not be His will? The Lord may be using this season to draw you closer to Him, to teach you patience, or to prepare you for something even better than you can imagine.
We will pray with you, but we must do so with discernment and a heart surrendered to God’s will. Let us come before the Lord together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. Lord, we lift up this sister to You, asking that You would draw her heart closer to Yours. Father, we pray that You would reveal to her the true desires of her heart—whether they align with Your will or whether they need to be surrendered to You. Lord, if this man is the one You have for her, we ask that You would soften his heart and lead him in the path of righteousness. If he is not, we ask that You would remove this desire and replace it with Your perfect peace.
Father, we pray for godly wisdom and discernment. If there has been sin in this relationship, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Help her to walk in purity and holiness, honoring You in all her relationships. Lord, we rebuke any spirit of idolatry or impatience that may be at work in her heart. We declare that her identity is found in Christ alone, and that her joy comes from You, not from any earthly relationship.
We pray for this man, Lord. If he does not know You, we ask that You would draw him to salvation. If he is a believer, we pray that You would convict him of any sin and lead him into a deeper relationship with You. Father, we ask that You would align both of their hearts with Your will. If it is Your plan for them to be together, we pray for a marriage that honors You, built on a foundation of faith, love, and mutual submission to Your Word.
Above all, Lord, we pray that Your will would be done. Give her the strength to trust in You, even when the path is unclear. Fill her with Your peace and remind her that You are working all things together for her good (Romans 8:28). We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Sister, we encourage you to spend time in God’s Word and in prayer, seeking His face above all else. Surrender this desire to Him, and trust that He knows what is best for you. If this man is not the one God has for you, do not lose heart—God’s plans for you are good, and He may have someone even better in store. Continue to seek Him, and He will direct your steps. If you have not already, we also encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers who can help guide you in this season. The Lord is faithful, and He will not leave you nor forsake you.
