Praying for the life of my kid brother

We have heard your heartfelt request for your younger brother and we join you in bringing him before the Lord with love and concern. Your care for him is right and good, for we are members of one another and we owe love to our brothers, and to bear one another's burdens in prayer is a debt of love we gladly share with you.

We understand how heavy this has become for your family. To see him mistreated at work, discouraged to the point of wanting to give up, turning to alcohol, and falling into debt brings weariness and worry. It is right that you are tired and that you have turned to God, for He alone can give strength, wisdom and peace that circumstances cannot give.

We will pray for him, and we encourage you to continue to walk with him in truth and love.

We pray that God will grant him good health in body and mind, and peace in his heart and in his workplace. Where there is harsh treatment or conflict, we pray God will give him grace to act with patience and wisdom, to seek reconciliation where possible, and to do his work faithfully as unto the Lord. If the situation at work remains harmful, we pray God will give him clear guidance and open a better way for honest work, not out of escape but out of responsibility.

We also pray for his deliverance from drinking. Scripture warns us that drunkenness leads to ruin and takes away clear judgment, and God calls His children to be sober minded and self controlled. We pray that your brother will turn away from alcohol, receive strength to resist it, and find comfort not in drink but in Christ. We pray too that God will help him become responsible again, to be a good steward of what God provides, to face his debts honestly and to learn diligence and discipline in his daily life.

Above all we pray that he will know the hope that is only in Jesus Christ, for salvation and true peace come through Him alone. When a heart is restored to God, the whole life begins to be made whole.

Father in heaven, we lift up this young man to You. Have mercy on him and on his family in ###. Heal him, keep him from harm, and give him peace at work and at home. Deliver him from the desire for alcohol and give him a spirit of self control and responsibility. Teach him to work faithfully, to manage what he has with wisdom, and to pay what he owes. Comfort his family who are weary, and give them wisdom to help him with both truth and kindness. Draw him to Yourself through Jesus Christ and make his life new. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Do not grow weary in praying for him and speaking the truth to him in love. Encourage him to seek godly counsel, to stay away from places and companions that lead him to drink, to be faithful in his work, and to trust God day by day. God is able to restore and to give peace even in difficult circumstances, and He hears the prayers of those who seek Him.

Your love and burden for your younger brother is a beautiful reflection of what it means to be your brother's keeper. Scripture makes it clear that we are indeed called to watch over our brothers and sisters, and as an older sibling you carry a special responsibility to intercede for him, to stand in the gap, and to love him through this hard season. God sees the anguish of his soul, even when others at his workplace do not, and He hears your prayers.

In the story of Joseph and his brothers we see how deeply a family can feel the weight of a younger brother's suffering. The brothers later confessed that they had seen the anguish of their brother's soul when he pleaded with them and they did not listen, and that memory stayed with them. Jacob was so protective of his youngest son that he feared harm would come to him, and when Joseph finally saw his younger brother again after many years, his prayer for him was simply, God be gracious to you, my son. That is my prayer for your brother as well, that God would be gracious to him, guard his health, and give him peace in his heart and peace in the place where he works. Even mistreatment and hardship at work can be places where God is at work to preserve life and to shape character, as Joseph was able to tell his brothers that God had sent him ahead to preserve life.

There is also a call to loving, honest restoration. One brother in that same story offered himself as a substitute, saying he would remain so his younger brother could go free to his father. That spirit of intercession is what the apostle Paul showed when he pleaded for Onesimus, asking that he be received no longer as a servant but as a beloved brother, and even offering to pay any debt owed. You are doing that kind of interceding now, bringing your brother's name before the Lord. Part of that love is also speaking the truth gently about the things that are harming him. Scripture teaches that if a brother is caught in sin we should go to him privately with the goal of restoration, seeking to gain our brother, not to shame him. Drunkenness and the debts that follow bring deep trouble and steal a person's responsibility and peace, and God calls us to turn from them and walk in sobriety and self control. The most loving thing you can do is to continue praying, and also to go to him humbly, tell him you love him, acknowledge the pain he feels at work, and urge him to turn from alcohol and to take responsible steps with his finances, perhaps with wise counsel from a mature believer who can help him.

Reconciliation often comes through humility and blessing, as it did when Jacob humbled himself before his brother Esau, bowed low, offered gifts from what God had given him, and then embraced him, and the love that had been broken was rekindled. Pray that God would soften hearts at your brother's workplace, and that your brother would also respond with humility and integrity, not with bitterness or escape through drinking.

Let us pray together for him. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who alone is our Savior, I bring this younger brother before You. You know the mistreatment he faces at work, the discouragement that makes him want to quit, the temptation to drink, and the burden of debt. Have mercy and be gracious to him. Touch his body and give him good health, calm his mind and give him Your peace that passes understanding, and bring peace also to his workplace. Deliver him from the desire for alcohol, set him free from every chain, and teach him to be responsible and steady again. Help him to acknowledge his need for You, to confess his sin, and to receive Your forgiveness and new life through Jesus. Provide for his debts, give him wisdom to work diligently and honestly, and surround him with people who will encourage him in the right way. Strengthen his older sibling who is praying, give comfort and hope where there is weariness, and let this family see Your preserving hand at work. Amen.

We want to thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for the life of your kid brother. We have been lifting him up before the Lord and we continue to remember you and your family in ### in our prayers.

We have prayed specifically for the difficult treatment he is facing at his job, for the discouragement that makes him want to stop working, for his struggle with alcohol and for the burden of debt that weighs on him and on all of you as you shared that you are tired and do not know what to do. We have asked God to touch his body with good health, to fill his life with peace and to bring peace into his workplace, and to restore in him a spirit of responsibility and self control.

We take comfort in promises like 1 Peter 5:7 that we can cast all our care on Him because He cares for us, and Phil 4:7 that the peace of God will guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

We pray now together. Father we lift this young man to You, ask You to protect him, to deliver him from alcohol, to provide for his debts, to give him favor and justice at work or to open a better door if it is Your will, and to renew his strength and hope. Bring healing and peace to his heart and to his family. In Jesus Name we pray, amen.

If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
