Praying for someone.

Beloved of All
Some things that I am aware of cause me great hurt by a person and this person is aware but keeps going in a selfish direction. I have no idea what to do because reasoning does not work. I pray for a conviction of the conscience about all the wrong things, a light to visit a dark soul in Jesus name I ask amen.

We hear the deep pain in your words, and we stand with you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord. It is clear that you are carrying the weight of someone else’s choices, and that is not an easy place to be. The hurt you feel is real, and we join you in praying for truth, healing, and divine intervention.

First, we want to affirm that your desire for this person to experience conviction and the light of Christ is rooted in love, not vengeance, but a longing for repentance and restoration. Scripture tells us, "The Lord’s hand is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear" (Isaiah 59:1-2). Yet we also know that God is merciful, and His kindness leads to repentance (Romans 2:4). We pray that this person’s heart would be softened, that their conscience would be awakened, and that they would turn from selfishness to seek the Lord’s will.

At the same time, we must address the reality of sin and its consequences. If this person is a believer, their actions are grieving the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30). If they are not, they are walking in darkness and need the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We rebuke the spirit of selfishness and hardness of heart in the name of Jesus, declaring that no stronghold of pride or rebellion will stand against the conviction of the Holy Spirit. We pray that God would break through the darkness and bring them to a place of humility and repentance.

For you, dear one, we pray for wisdom and strength. It is not your responsibility to change this person’s heart, that is the work of the Holy Spirit. But you can choose how you respond. Jesus tells us, "If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them" (Luke 17:3). Have you spoken the truth in love to this person, making it clear how their actions have hurt you? If so, and they continue in their ways, Scripture also instructs us to "not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people" (1 Corinthians 5:11). This is not about punishment but about protecting your heart and allowing God to work in their life.

We also encourage you to guard your heart against bitterness. Hebrews 12:15 warns, "See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." Bitterness will only poison your spirit and hinder your own walk with the Lord. Instead, release this person and this situation into God’s hands. Trust that He sees your pain and will bring justice in His perfect timing. "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord" (Romans 12:19).

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation to You. Lord, we ask that You would move mightily in the life of this person who is causing pain. Soften their heart, convict them of their sin, and draw them to repentance. Let Your light shine into the darkness of their soul, and may they turn to You with a humble and contrite spirit. We rebuke the spirit of selfishness and hardness of heart in the name of Jesus, and we declare that no weapon formed against Your truth will prosper.

Father, we also pray for the one who is hurting. Give them wisdom to know how to respond in a way that honors You. Guard their heart from bitterness and resentment, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help them to release this burden to You, trusting that You are just and that You will bring about Your perfect will in this situation. Strengthen them to walk in forgiveness, even as they seek Your justice.

Lord, we know that it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to You. We thank You for the gift of salvation through Christ, who died for our sins and rose again so that we might have eternal life. We pray that this person would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior if they do not already, and that they would experience the transforming power of Your love.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.

In the days ahead, lean on the Lord and seek His face. Spend time in His Word, allowing it to renew your mind and strengthen your spirit. Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage you and pray with you. Remember, you are not alone, God is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

We know how heavy it feels when someone you care about keeps moving in a direction that openly wounds you, and all your attempts to reason with them seem to hit a wall. It can leave you drained and unsure of what else to try. Please know you are not alone in that ache.

When we’ve walked with others in similar pain, one thing that has helped us is the reminder that a person’s conscience is not something we can override with our words. It can be numbed, misinformed, or stubbornly set, but only God truly searches a heart and awakens it. Your prayer for a conviction of conscience and for light to reach a dark soul is exactly the right place to keep going. Even when nothing looks different on the outside, that plea is doing something real before the Lord.

For yourself, it may be wise to loosen the effort of trying to make them see what they aren’t ready to see. You don’t have to carry the weight of being their conscience. Giving yourself some gentle space can protect your own heart from bitterness while you continue to pray. If there’s a trustworthy believer, a pastor, a mature friend, you could share this burden with, that can lighten the load too. You weren’t meant to wrestle this alone.

Lord Jesus, you see the pain this person’s choices have caused, and you know how helpless it feels when reasoning fails. We ask that your Spirit would stir the conscience of the one who keeps going in a harmful direction, bring a deep, honest awareness of what is wrong, and draw them toward what is right. In the meantime, hold the person praying close to you. Give them steady peace, clear wisdom about when to speak and when to step back, and the comfort of your presence. We trust this situation into your hands, in your name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I know that we all go through things. The Bible says sometimes we don’t know what to pray for. But spirit knows. Romans 8:26-27 26. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit...
