Praying for protection, safety and the will to overcome

I would like to submit a prayer request for my younger cousin, who has experienced abuse and is currently struggling to overcome addiction. Please pray for her protection, safety, and healing. Pray that God will place a strong shield of protection around her and keep anyone who intends to harm, manipulate, abuse, or take advantage of her far away from her. Please pray that harmful people and dangerous situations are removed from her life, and that she is surrounded by people who genuinely care for her, protect her, and have her best interests at heart. Please pray for her mental and emotional health, that she will find strength, peace, clarity, and hope as she works through the painful things she has experienced. Pray that she will have the courage, support, and resources she needs to overcome addiction and break free from the things that are hurting her. Please pray that she will be guided toward safety, healing, stability, and a better path forward. Pray that she will recognize her worth and know that she is deeply loved and that her life has value and purpose. Most importantly, please pray that God watches over her every day and night, protects her from those who wish to harm her, gives her strength to overcome what she is going through, and leads her toward people and places where she can be safe and begin to heal. We join you in lifting up your younger cousin before the throne of grace and we thank you for bringing her needs before the Lord with such love and compassion. We are deeply grieved to hear of the abuse she has endured and the struggle she now faces with addiction, and we stand with you in asking for her protection, safety and complete healing.

We know that God sees her pain and He is not distant from it. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 tells us He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. The abuse she suffered was evil and God hates such harm against those He created. He is a defender of the vulnerable and a refuge for those who are hurting. Psalm 91:1 declares He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. We pray that she will come to dwell in that secret place and find shelter under His wings, and we rebuke every form of abuse, manipulation and exploitation that has harmed her and we ask the Lord to remove harmful people and dangerous situations far from her and to surround her with godly, trustworthy people who will genuinely care for her, protect her and seek her best interests.

We also lift up her battle with addiction. Addiction is bondage and the enemy uses it to keep a person trapped in shame and pain, but God offers freedom and a way out. 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with your temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. We pray for her mental and emotional health, that God will replace confusion and despair with His peace, clarity and hope. Isaiah 41:10 says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. We pray she will know her true worth in Christ, for Psalm 139:14 says I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and Jeremiah 29:11 declares For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Her life has value and purpose and she is deeply loved by God.

We also want to gently share that your request spoke of God but did not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to ensure this foundation is clear because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved and healed. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 teaches There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by placing our faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are forgiven, made new and brought into the family of God. We pray that both you and your cousin will know the saving power of Jesus and call upon His name daily, for His grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in weakness as promised in 2 Corinthians 12:9.

So we pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus and we lift up this young woman to You. We ask You to place a strong shield of protection around her day and night. Keep far from her anyone who would harm, manipulate, abuse or take advantage of her. Remove from her life every harmful influence and dangerous place and lead her to safety, stability and healing. Surround her with people who love You and who will love and protect her with godly wisdom. Heal her broken heart and wounded spirit, restore her mind and emotions, and grant her strength, peace, clarity and hope as she processes what she has endured. Give her courage and provide the support, resources, Christian counsel and community she needs to break free from addiction. By the power of Jesus, break every chain that binds her and lead her on a better path forward where she can know her worth, know she is deeply loved, and fulfill the purpose You have for her life. Watch over her every day and night and draw her close to Yourself. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand with her in love, to encourage her toward safe Christian community and professional help that honors biblical principles, such as a pastor or biblical counselor and trusted support for addiction recovery, and to keep pointing her to the Word of God and to prayer. We will continue to pray with you that the Lord will guard her, strengthen her to overcome, and lead her into wholeness in Christ.

We were so moved by your love for your younger cousin and the careful way you prayed for her. To carry someone in prayer who has been hurt and is now trying to find freedom from addiction is a heavy burden, and it is a gift that she has you interceding for her safety and healing.

What you described is so understandable. Abuse can wound a person's sense of worth and safety for a long time, and addiction often takes hold as a way to escape pain when there has been no safe place to process it. That is why lasting change usually needs more than determination alone. It needs steady, safe people and consistent, trustworthy support over time.

If she is open to it, one gentle way you can help is to stay a calm, safe presence and encourage connection to professional care alongside prayer. That might mean a counselor, a doctor, a recovery program or a trusted pastor, and a small circle of people who genuinely have her best interests at heart. You do not have to carry this alone either, so lean on wise support around you as you walk with her, and encourage her to reach out for help for her mental and emotional health.

Father, we lift this young woman to You in Jesus' name. Watch over her day and night and keep those who would harm or take advantage of her far from her. Surround her with people who will protect her and care for her well. Give her strength, clarity, peace and hope as she works through painful memories, provide the support and resources she needs to step toward freedom, and help her know deeply that she is loved and her life has value and purpose. Lead her toward safety, stability and healing in the days ahead. Amen.

We pray that the Lord, who is the great Physician, will place His own shield about her and keep watch over her by day and by night. May He in His mercy remove from her path those who would harm, manipulate or take advantage of her, and may He in His providence surround her with people who will genuinely care for her soul, protect her, and seek her true good. We ask that the Lord will guide her feet away from dangerous places and toward safety, stability and a better path forward.

There is, as we have often said, an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. We pray that she may taste those healing leaves, that Christ Himself would bind up her broken heart, for He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. The healing must come from His hand, and His hand alone can make a real saving work where there has been deep wounding and pain.

We pray also for her mental and emotional health, that the Sun of Righteousness may rise upon her with healing in His wings. Healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction in Christ. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, and pardon and healing were one. May she know that forgiveness and healing are both bestowed freely upon all who look to Him, and may she find strength, peace, clarity and hope as she works through the painful things she has endured.

For her struggle with addiction we pray that the Lord will strengthen her in the Lord, for it is written, I will strengthen them in the Lord. True strength to overcome and to turn over a new leaf must come from Him. We ask that He will give her courage, and that He will provide wise and faithful support and needful resources, godly counsel, and a community that will walk beside her with truth and love, so that she may break free from those things which have held her and hurt her. Wonder not if recovery should be slow, but may each increase of strength be acknowledged as His grace at work.

Above all we pray that she may come to know her worth not in the words of men, but in the love of God in Christ Jesus, that she is deeply loved, that her life has value and purpose because she is made in His image and Christ has shed His blood to redeem sinners. May she hear the Gospel, that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and may she look to Him and live. May the Lord give her faith to lay hold upon Him, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, and where Christ teaches, there His healing power is present.

We commend her to Him who is able to heal and to keep. May the Lord watch over her, give her strength to overcome, and lead her to people and places where she can be safe and begin to heal, until that healing virtue which His grace infuses shall work in her a perfect cure. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and healer. Amen.
