Praying for my Marriage

Thank you for sharing your honest prayer for your marriage. God sees you both completely. Nothing about your situation, your pain, or the hurt you have caused each other is hidden from Him. He looks on you with compassion and sympathetic understanding of your weaknesses and needs, and only He can do the kind of deep healing that restores what is broken. That kind of restoration is a divine work of grace.

God designed marriage so that two become one. It is a compound unity, two persons joined into one flesh and one covenant for life. That oneness reflects His own nature and it is why the pain of division cuts so deeply. When that unity is wounded, healing must be more than surface level.

It is natural to pray first for the pain to go away and for the relationship to feel better, but Scripture shows the deeper need is the forgiveness of sin. The hurt between you is real, and you do need to forgive each other, but all sin is ultimately against God Himself, because it breaks His law. Saying to each other I forgive you is important, yet each of you must also ask God for His forgiveness through Jesus Christ. True repentance is shown not just in words but in a changed heart and changed direction, and that change is what opens the way for real restoration. Jesus went about doing good and healing, and He taught His followers to love one another, to forgive one another, to be merciful and not to keep striving against each other. Ask Him to teach you both that way of love and mercy in your daily life together.

Above even the healing of your marriage, the greatest need for each of you is salvation. It would be better to enter heaven whole in Christ than to have every other problem solved and be without Him. If you have both received Jesus Christ as Savior, you can rest in His forgiveness. If either of you has not yet done so, make that the first prayer. God has provided one way of salvation through His Son who was given so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. To reject that provision is the only sin that cannot be forgiven. The enemy often tries to use the idea of an unforgivable sin to torment sensitive hearts, but if you have come to Christ, you are forgiven and you do not need to live under that condemnation.

I am praying for you that God will bring healing to your hearts and restoration to your oneness according to His will. May He grant you both repentance toward Him, grace to forgive each other as you have been forgiven, and wisdom to walk in love, mercy and gentleness without striving. May He who alone can heal do His gracious work in you and make your marriage a testimony of His redeeming love. In Jesus name, amen.
