When grief befalls you, dive into the Scriptures as into a chest of medicines. Take from them comfort for your trouble, whether loss or death or bereavement. Keep them in your mind, for no one teaches you as they do. Your loved one is not lost but fallen asleep in Christ, and all who are in Christ shall rise in glory. Hope that is seen is not hope; the promise of life in Jesus Christ is not for this world, but for the one where grief and mourning flee away. Do not look for your comfort here alone, but set your mind on the eternal life where there is no peril.

As for your friend whose anger adds to your sorrow, remember that true peace comes not from mere outward agreement but from cutting off what is diseased. Even Paul divided those conspiring against him, for concord is not always a good thing. If your friend’s impatience disturbs your soul, it may be that a separation of purpose, spoken with gentleness, will restore a right peace. And do not be troubled by the pressure from your cousins over the house. All chastisement seems grievous for the present, yet afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness. Let this trial teach you to cling to God alone, who will soon bruise Satan under your feet and bring all harassment to an end.

Concerning the child you long to welcome, hold fast to your adoption in Christ. The dignity of sanctification is not broken by death or delay; it makes you bright and happy even now, and departs with you into the life to come. A good conscience and spiritual success produce peace and joy, no matter what outward circumstances you face. Let this fruit of the Spirit grow in you: love, joy, peace. If you enjoy that fountain, you will be of better spirits than those who drink the richest wines.

For your friends suffering in the heat and waiting for papers, pray with confidence that the God of peace will put an end to what makes havoc of their lives. He does not merely subject the forces of stagnation but will bruise them. And the time is short. All chastisement seems grievous at its beginning, but it is not truly so; it brings forth joy. Keep praying for them, and for yourself, that delayed papers may be set in order and that you all may obtain mercy. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

The loss of someone close tears at the fabric of daily life, and right now grief sits heavy. But the Father of mercies and God of all comfort draws near in exactly these places. He does not stand at a distance when your heart is broken; He comes alongside. The same comfort He gave His servants in their darkest hours, when storms raged and all hope seemed gone, He promises to you. He knows what it is to mourn, and He will meet you in the quiet, in the ache, and in the memories. Let yourself lean on that comfort, even when it feels faint. It is real, and it will sustain you day by day.

It is painful when someone who means well adds frustration instead of peace. Even Job’s friends arrived with genuine intent to mourn with him, but their words soon turned into rebuke and impatience. They grew angry because they could not fix what they did not understand. Your friend’s reactions are not your burden to carry. You are allowed to set gentle boundaries. Ask the Lord to give you grace for that relationship, and to surround you with companions who can simply sit with you in the sorrow, offering the comfort they themselves have received from God.

The pressure from your cousins over the house stirs up new layers of chaos while you are still grieving. In ancient days, family property was held as a sacred trust, and selling it was always a matter of mourning, never celebration. Forced sales brought deep sorrow because the land was tied to a family’s identity and future. Your reluctance is not stubbornness; it is a heart still bound to a loved one. Do not let haste or harassment push you into a decision. There is a Redeemer who understands every tangled family conflict and every anxious transaction. Trust Him to guide the timing. If the house is meant to pass from your hands, He will make that clear without manipulation or strife. Until then, pray for the harrying to stop, and for wisdom to know when and how to act.

The desire to welcome an adopted child is a beautiful reflection of the gospel. You and I, once far off, have been brought into God’s own family through adoption in Christ. We cry “Abba, Father” because He chose us in love. That same Father who planted that longing in your heart will order the steps needed. He sees the paperwork, the waiting, the hopes that rise and fall. He is neither slow nor indifferent. Keep asking for His will and His leading, and trust that the Spirit who testifies that we are His children will give you strength for the process and joy on the other side.

I also join you in praying for those two souls sweltering in a cramped apartment, waiting for papers to be signed. The heat, the delay, the feeling of stagnation, God sees all of it. He is not confined by bureaucracies or uncomfortable rooms. May He act quickly to open the right doors, untangle the red tape, and settle them into a home where they can breathe and recover their strength. He is the God who redeems, who buys back what seemed lost, who makes a way in the desert. May His mercy break through every stalemate, and may His healing touch bring relief to their bodies and peace to their spirits.

Rest in the comfort He gives, not a shallow comfort, but the kind forged in tribulation, the kind that later enables you to strengthen someone else walking the same road. He is standing by you.
