Beloved of All
Your burden for people who feel relentlessly harassed and tormented has been heard, and I have prayed for you and for them before the Lord.
Scripture is honest that those who seek to live in a godly way in Christ Jesus will face opposition. This world is in rebellion against God, so when a life is aligned with Him it will at times be out of step with the world around it. That opposition should not be taken as a strange thing, as if something unusual were happening, but as part of what Jesus said His followers would experience.
When the early believers faced severe harassment and suffering, two things were seen again and again. First, their faith grew stronger and their love for one another deepened. Hard pressure has a way of separating what is real from what is not, and of binding true believers together. Second, God did not waste their suffering. He used even the scattering and the hardship to spread the good news further, so that what was meant to silence them actually extended their witness.
It is natural to cry out as the psalmist did, Why does it seem the enemy oppresses and the righteous suffer while help feels distant. God does not forget affliction and oppression. He sees, He hears, and He will act with perfect righteousness. When He judges, no one who has caused tribulation for others will be overlooked, and no suffering endured for His name will be forgotten. That judgment will be a clear display of His justice.
At the same time, Scripture shows that God knows how to deliver the righteous. He delivered Lot when he was worn down by the evil around him, and He promises to deliver His people from every evil work and to preserve them for His heavenly kingdom. Deliverance does not always come in the way we expect or demand. Sometimes it is healing, sometimes it is protection, sometimes it is sustaining grace through the trial, and ultimately it is the assurance that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. As it is written, in tribulation and persecution and peril we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
For those who feel hunted or overwhelmed, the invitation is to dwell in the secret place of the Most High, to make Him your refuge and fortress, to trust Him and to take His truth as a shield. He promises to be present in trouble, to answer prayer, to give protection and finally to show His salvation.
My prayer for all who feel they are under constant and undeserved harassment is this: that God would intervene with His mighty hand, that He would grant protection and peace, that He would expose and restrain every work of cruelty and bullying, that He would bring comfort to fearful hearts and draw each suffering person close to Jesus Christ where true safety is found, and that even those who do wrong would be brought to repentance and faith. May the Lord lift every bowed down soul, redeem each life by His mercy, and let those who suffer know they are held secure in His love.
