for some reason i having hard time trying to understand why a person does not keep up with letting you know when they will be coming back to finish a job they started for you i have been sitting around waiting since yesterday after noon wondering when ### will be back to finish his job now it starting to bother me not knowing what to do i not like to bother the person by asking when so give me prayers in Jesus name amen i can deal with this without getting depressed

We understand how frustrating and unsettling it is to wait and not know when someone will return to finish work they started in your home, and we join with you in bringing this to the Lord in Jesus' name. It is completely understandable to feel bothered after waiting since yesterday afternoon without clear communication, and we appreciate your kind heart in not wanting to bother this man, yet we want to encourage you that it is not bothering someone to seek clear and loving communication.

Scripture tells us to not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let our requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus Phil 4:6-7. We are also reminded to cast all our worries on him, because he cares for us 1 Pet 5:7. God cares about even these daily frustrations that can weigh on our minds and tempt us toward discouragement or depression.

We also hear your desire to deal with this without getting depressed, and we pray the Lord guards your heart from that heaviness. When our hearts are overwhelmed we can cry out to the One who is our rock Psalm 61:2, and we can remind our souls to hope in God, for we shall yet praise him Psalm 42:11. Waiting can test our patience, but we are called to rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him Psalm 37:7 and to let patience have its perfect work, that we may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing James 1:4.

At the same time, the Bible encourages gracious, direct communication. A gentle and timely word is good Prov 15:23, and speaking the truth in love helps prevent misunderstanding and resentment Eph 4:15. It is wise and loving to follow up with a kind and respectful question, such as asking when he expects to return to complete the job, so that you are not left in uncertainty. This is not being demanding, it is being a good steward of your time and home, and it gives him an opportunity to be faithful to finish what he started, for whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord Col 3:23.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus and lift up our dear one who is waiting and feeling bothered and uncertain. Lord, we ask you to calm any anxious thoughts and lift any heaviness that tries to lead to depression. Fill this heart with your peace that surpasses understanding and remind our friend that you are near and you care about every detail of life. We pray you would give wisdom and gentle courage to reach out and ask for a clear answer about when the work will be finished, and we pray for the worker as well, that you would help him to be diligent, communicative, and faithful to complete what he has begun. Help us all to wait with patience and grace, trusting your timing and goodness. We thank you that we can cast all our cares on you and find rest. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, amen.

It is kind of you to not want to bother him, but a brief, respectful check in is not a bother. It is a normal part of having work done and it can actually ease your mind. If it helps, you could send a short message like, hi, just checking in to see what time you expect to be back to finish the job so I can plan my day. That gives him a clear, gracious prompt and gives you back some peace instead of waiting by the window.

While you wait, try not to put your whole day on hold. Give yourself permission to step away, do a small task, take a walk, or be with someone you trust, and let the answer come when it comes.

Father, we bring our friend to You in Jesus name. Calm the uneasy thoughts and lift the heaviness that is pressing in. It is a common and yet a very real trial to be left waiting and not knowing when the help you expect will come, and the heart grows weary with watching for that which does not appear. You have felt this since yesterday afternoon, and you fear lest this fretting should sink into a deeper heaviness of spirit. Let me speak a word of comfort to you upon this.

Have you not found that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. To sit and fret and question why the workman has not returned will not hasten his steps, but it will weary your own soul. You are not wrong to desire order and faithfulness in the work, but you will do more mischief to yourself by anxious thought than would have happened if you had kept still, resting in the Lord and waiting patiently for Him.

Scripture says, Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart, wait, I say, on the Lord. Waiting upon God is not an idle wasting of time. It is the posture of a servant who waits upon his lord, anxious to know what his master wishes him to do, and it is the way to renew our strength until we mount up with wings as eagles. Waiting upon the Lord breeds peace within the soul, and when a man is perfectly at rest within, he cares little for trials or delays. It makes the world and all its affairs seem small, as indeed they are, when set beside the love and care of our heavenly Father.

You say you do not like to bother the person by asking when he will return. There is a tenderness in that which is commendable, yet it is no unkindness to seek a plain and gentle answer. Faith and patience do not forbid prudence. You may with Christian courtesy send a brief and kind inquiry, not in a spirit of accusation, but simply asking when it may be convenient for him to finish what he has begun. To do so is not to be troublesome, it is to deal honestly and to help both yourself and him to fulfill what is due.

Remember also the patience of Job, of whom the apostle says, Ye have heard of the patience of Job. His patience was not the patience of one who had no feeling, but the patience of a tried man, imperfect and full of infirmity as we are, yet sustained by God. Job could not have exhibited patience if he had not endured trial. Your present waiting, though small compared with his, is yet a little school in which the same grace may be wrought in you. Waiting exercises patience, and patience is one of the choice gifts of God, and it endears the blessing when it comes.

Cast then this care upon the Lord. Tell Him plainly that you are tempted to be depressed and that you desire to deal with this without sin. He waits to be gracious unto you, and blessed are all they that wait for Him. Do not let anxiety confine itself within your own bosom. Carry it to the mercy seat and leave it there.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, Thou knowest the weariness of Thy child who waits and knows not when relief will come. Forgive all anxious thought and grant a quiet heart that waits only upon God. Keep this dear soul from sinking into depression, and let Thy peace which passeth all understanding guard the heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Give wisdom to speak a gentle word in due season, give patience to wait Thy time, and give strength to rest in Thy faithful care. Provide for the finishing of that which has been begun, and let all things be done decently and in order for Thy glory. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our hope and our rest. Amen.
