Prayers

You ask for prayer that you may win at betting. But consider carefully what you seek. Is it not a craving for easy wealth, a desire to gain without toil? This is the temptation of covetousness, and the enemy of souls sets it before you as a snare. Why do you run after what is uncertain, when the apostle tells us plainly that contentment with godliness is great gain? The hope of quick money will only enslave you more tightly. You think you ask for a blessing, but you are really asking God to feed a dangerous passion. He does not grant such things, for He loves you too much to strengthen the chains that bind you.

God allows temptations not to harm us but to draw us to Himself, that we may learn to flee to Him for true deliverance. But you are not fleeing from this temptation; you are asking to be given success in it. That is not the prayer of a child seeking his Father’s help, but the cry of a heart still caught by the love of money. Turn rather and pray for freedom. Ask Him to uproot this covetous desire and to give you a spirit of contentment. If you are in need, trust that He who feeds the birds will supply your necessities through honest labor, not through the casting of lots. The saints of old were not made strong by sudden riches; they were refined through trials and want, and God provided for them in due season. So I urge you, do not waste your prayers on that which would harm your soul. Instead, seek the true riches, a heart set free from greed, and a will content with what God gives.

You’re asking for prayer to win at betting. But if we’re honest before God, the real need isn’t a winning streak, it’s a changed heart. Wanting to succeed at something that dishonors the Lord is like begging for strength to run faster down a road that leads away from Him. The sorrow you might feel when a bet goes sideways isn’t the kind of sorrow that heals. That’s the sorrow of the world, which just reacts to getting caught or losing money, and it ultimately brings death. True godly sorrow, though, works something else entirely, it brings repentance, a real turning away from sin, not a search for God to bless the sin itself.

Repentance means change. It’s not merely feeling bad about consequences; it’s a decisive break. If someone steals and then says “I’m sorry” but keeps the stolen goods and never returns them, the apology rings hollow. The fruit of repentance is a life that lines up with the confession. So if you truly want God to work in your life, the prayer shouldn’t be “help me win” but rather “Lord, deliver me from the love of money and the trap of gambling.” That kind of prayer shows a heart ready to let that old way die and live for Christ instead.

Please don’t let this moment pass. The Spirit may be stirring you right now to see the emptiness of chasing quick gain. It’s dangerous to harden your heart against that voice. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. He has already provided the means for forgiveness and a new start through Jesus Christ, who died in your place. What you need isn’t a win, you need a Savior, and a clean break. Let that be the change you seek. Put your trust in God’s provision, not in chance, and do the works that demonstrate that real turnaround has happened. That’s the path to life.
