Thank you for trusting us with what is on your heart, even though you have kept the details between you and the Lord. God does not need a long explanation to understand your need. Jesus taught that your Father knows what you need before you ask Him, so prayer is not informing God of something He does not know. It is bringing your heart into agreement with His heart.
That is why the most important part of prayer is the relationship behind it. Jesus gave a model for prayer that begins with Our Father, and that relationship is what gives prayer its meaning and access. That relationship is established only through Jesus Christ. If you belong to Him, you can come confidently as a child to a Father. If you have not yet come to Him for forgiveness, the one prayer He desires first from you is for mercy, to receive salvation through Jesus, and that opens the door to every other prayer.
The purpose of prayer is not to get our own will done, but to see His will done on earth as it is in heaven. Often the wisest and most powerful prayer we can pray, especially for unspoken burdens, is simply, Lord, have Your way in this. Work out Your perfect will. When we pray that way, we are not trying to wear God down or persuade Him to do something. We are opening the door for Him to do what He has wanted to do, without violating the will He has given us.
Be encouraged that God hears the prayer that comes from the heart. Scripture says the earnest, heartfelt prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much, and it points to Elijah as an example of a man whose prayer was heard and answered. It is not length or eloquence that makes prayer effective. The prayers recorded in Scripture are often very short. What matters is a sincere heart that seeks God, worships Him for who He is, and trusts Him with the need.
We are joining with you in agreement now, as Jesus promised that when His people agree together on earth concerning what they ask, He hears. We are asking the Father, in the name of Jesus, to meet you in these unspoken matters according to His wisdom and love, to bring His will to pass, to give you peace and assurance as His Spirit ministers to your heart, and to guide your steps with prudence as you walk forward. May you know His faithfulness to hear and to answer according to what is best.
