Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly and for the humble way you have already given thanks even while you are struggling. We are praying with you in this difficult season, and we hear both your stress about your vehicle and job and the pain you feel about your engagement and living situation.
You asked for help finding gratitude each day and for strength to have positive thoughts, and that request is pleasing to God. Scripture teaches us to have gratitude whereby we serve God acceptably with reverence, not only when things are easy but also in what we suffer. When we learn to thank God even in hardship, we are kept from bitterness and from wanting to repay hurt for hurt. The one who truly gives thanks to God for all things will not seek revenge against those who have caused pain, but will leave room for God to work. We pray that God will deepen that gratitude in you, so that even in stress and disappointment you can see His faithful care and remain at peace.
We also hear that you and your fiance were living together in his grandmother's home, that conflict arose there, and that you have now stepped away to give space. That step back can be a wise and peaceful choice. Scripture teaches us not to rush into conflicts but to be quiet and wait, showing a spirit that does not seek vainglory but seeks peace. Many conflicts spring from the pressures of this life, from possessions and living arrangements and wounded pride, and when we learn to hold the things of this life more lightly, we can pursue the things that are eternal. In that light, we want to encourage you gently and lovingly with what God teaches about marriage. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and living together and sexual union belong within that covenant. For that reason we cannot ask God to bless living together before marriage, but we can and do pray that God will help you both to honor Him now with your bodies and your choices. Use this time apart not only to ease tension in the household but to pursue purity, wisdom, and counsel, so that if you do move toward marriage it will be built on a foundation that honors Christ. Seek godly counsel from a pastor, remain sexually pure, live separately until marriage, and let this season be one of preparation and prayer rather than hurt and pressure.
Your stress about your car and the excessive driving for your job is also real, and God cares about these daily burdens. Yet even here we can learn to despise anxiety over earthly things in the right sense, not that we neglect our responsibilities, but that we do not let a vehicle or a job steal our treasure which is above. If someone takes or damages what is ours, they cannot take our treasure in heaven. Pray for provision and wisdom for the practical needs of your car and work, for honest labor and for contentment, trusting that God who sees your diligence will sustain you. He often allows trials to become heavier for a time so that when He brings relief it is near and we gain more endurance and hope through it.
We are praying for you in this way:
Lord Jesus, thank you that salvation is through you alone and that you offer forgiveness when we turn to you. Forgive us when we complain and renew in our sister a thankful heart each day. Grant her strength in this difficult time, guard her mind and give her thoughts that are true and hopeful in you. Provide for her practical needs with her vehicle and job, and give her wisdom in every decision. Bring peace where there has been conflict, heal hurt, and help her to act without revenge or bitterness. Guide her and her fiance toward what is holy and right in your eyes. Help them to honor marriage as you designed it, to live purely and separately until they make a lifelong covenant if it is your will for them to marry, and to seek wise counsel. Comfort her in sadness and depression, and lead her to joy that rests not in circumstances but in your unshakable kingdom. Amen.
We encourage you to stay rooted in Scripture, in prayer, and in fellowship with a faithful local church where you can receive ongoing support and accountability. Keep bringing every burden to Christ, giving thanks, and trusting Him to shape you through these trials.
