We join with you in lifting up your parents before the Lord and we share your sadness in hearing your father's heart, and we also rejoice with you that God has kept them together in marriage for all these years. Marriage is a holy covenant ordained by God as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and His desire is for that union to be filled with love, companionship, and joy until the end of life. Genesis 2:24 says, Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. That oneness is not only for the early years but for every season, and it is beautiful that you are interceding for their companionship to be renewed.
We understand that in older age life can become hard, bodies grow weary, routines become fixed, and hearts can grow distant without meaning to. Yet the Lord calls husbands and wives to continue to cherish one another. Ephesians 5:25 says, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it, and Ephesians 5:33 says, let each man love his wife even as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Proverbs 5:18 says, Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. And Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow, but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up. This is the companionship God intends, to lift one another up, to walk together, to enjoy life together.
We encourage you to continue to honor your parents as Exodus 20:12 commands, and to be a gentle encouragement to them both without taking sides, speaking with grace and love, and pointing them back to Christ who is the source of true compassion. Colossians 3:14 says, Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. 1 Peter 4:8 says, And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. Sometimes companionship fades not from lack of love but from unspoken hurts, weariness, or the enemy's subtle schemes to bring division, and we must stand against that in prayer. Ephesians 6:11 says, Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
We pray together now for them.
Father, we come before You in Jesus' name and we thank You for these precious parents, for their lives, for their marriage that has endured, and for the love their child has for them. We ask You to soften hearts where they have grown hard or weary, and to pour out Your tender compassion upon this mother and father. Lord, help this dear mother to show her husband companionship, kindness, and affection, and help this dear father to feel loved, respected, and cherished. Renew their love for one another, let it flourish again as in earlier days, and bring back joy, laughter, and tenderness into their home. We ask You to keep them healthy in body and mind, to give them strength to be active together, to try new things together, and to delight in each other's company. Protect their marriage from the schemes of the devil, surround them with Your peace, and let Your love be the bond that holds them together. Teach them to bear with one another in love, to be kind and forgiving, and to speak to each other with gentleness. May their marriage be a testimony of Your faithfulness in every season. We thank You that You hear our prayer and we trust You to do a good work in them, in Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.
