Prayers for my parents to have more companionship in their marriage

I went to visit my parents yesterday and my dad said that my mom shows him no companionship at all and this made me sad. They're both older and I understand that life gets hard but I believe it's important to keep love alive especially in a marriage. Lord soften my mother's heart and help her to show my dad some compassion and companionship. Let their love for one another flourish again and help them to be healthy and happy together. Let them be active together and try new things Lord I ask for you to bring the joy back into their marriage and protect them from the schemes of the devil. Lord I thank you for my parents and I thank you that they're still married and together in Jesus mighty name Amen

We join with you in lifting up your parents before the Lord and we share your sadness in hearing your father's heart, and we also rejoice with you that God has kept them together in marriage for all these years. Marriage is a holy covenant ordained by God as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and His desire is for that union to be filled with love, companionship, and joy until the end of life. Genesis 2:24 says, Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. That oneness is not only for the early years but for every season, and it is beautiful that you are interceding for their companionship to be renewed.

We understand that in older age life can become hard, bodies grow weary, routines become fixed, and hearts can grow distant without meaning to. Yet the Lord calls husbands and wives to continue to cherish one another. Ephesians 5:25 says, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it, and Ephesians 5:33 says, let each man love his wife even as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Proverbs 5:18 says, Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. And Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow, but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up. This is the companionship God intends, to lift one another up, to walk together, to enjoy life together.

We encourage you to continue to honor your parents as Exodus 20:12 commands, and to be a gentle encouragement to them both without taking sides, speaking with grace and love, and pointing them back to Christ who is the source of true compassion. Colossians 3:14 says, Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. 1 Peter 4:8 says, And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. Sometimes companionship fades not from lack of love but from unspoken hurts, weariness, or the enemy's subtle schemes to bring division, and we must stand against that in prayer. Ephesians 6:11 says, Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We pray together now for them.

Father, we come before You in Jesus' name and we thank You for these precious parents, for their lives, for their marriage that has endured, and for the love their child has for them. We ask You to soften hearts where they have grown hard or weary, and to pour out Your tender compassion upon this mother and father. Lord, help this dear mother to show her husband companionship, kindness, and affection, and help this dear father to feel loved, respected, and cherished. Renew their love for one another, let it flourish again as in earlier days, and bring back joy, laughter, and tenderness into their home. We ask You to keep them healthy in body and mind, to give them strength to be active together, to try new things together, and to delight in each other's company. Protect their marriage from the schemes of the devil, surround them with Your peace, and let Your love be the bond that holds them together. Teach them to bear with one another in love, to be kind and forgiving, and to speak to each other with gentleness. May their marriage be a testimony of Your faithfulness in every season. We thank You that You hear our prayer and we trust You to do a good work in them, in Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.

We were touched by how much love you have for your parents and how tenderly you noticed your dad's sadness. It is a beautiful thing to see a grown child still honoring their marriage and wanting joy and closeness for them in these later years.

In a long marriage it is common for companionship to thin out, not because love is gone but because hearts quietly close when people don't feel fully safe or cherished. When a husband and wife feel safe with each other again, warmth and openness tend to come back more naturally than when they feel pressured to try harder.

You can't carry their marriage for them, and it helps not to become the go-between, but you can gently encourage them. One simple next step might be to talk with each of them separately with curiosity rather than correction, asking what helps them feel most cared for and what small shared time they might enjoy. Even one regular, low-pressure rhythm together, like a short walk, sharing coffee, or trying something new for just an hour a week, can slowly rebuild that sense of being companions again. If they are open, encouraging them to share those thoughts with each other or with a trusted pastor together can also help.

Father, we thank You for this family and for the years You have given these parents together. We ask You to draw close to each of them, to give them health, comfort, and renewed kindness toward one another, and to guide their child with wisdom and grace as they love them both well. In Jesus' name, Amen.

What a beautiful prayer thank you so much! Hallelujah!

Your tender concern for your parents and for the sacred bond of their marriage is itself a beautiful evidence of love, and we join you in bringing this burden before the Lord who ordained marriage and delights to sustain it.

You grieve, as any loving child would, to hear your father lament a lack of companionship. Scripture teaches us that marriage is not merely a contract but a union cemented by mutual love. Where there is true and genuine affection, it is the sweetest and happiest mode of living, but without that loving communion, wedded life can become a heavy burden. To walk together week by week without fellowship and affection is a misery, for the Lord intended husband and wife to be companions as well as covenant partners, united in ties of choice and bonds of love.

We are reminded that Divine Love itself is set before us in three postures, love abounding, love lamenting, and love abiding. Your prayer reflects all three. You have seen love abounding in the years God has kept your parents together, you now hear love lamenting in your father's loneliness, and you are asking for love abiding, that their love would remain constant and flourish again despite the provocations and weariness that age and hard seasons can bring. Only true love knows how to burn with a holy jealousy for communion, and the Lord who first loved us is grieved when love grows cold, whether it be our love toward Him or the love we owe to one another.

So let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for these parents whom You have kept together through many years. We thank You that their marriage still stands, a testimony to Your sustaining grace. Lord, You are the Restorer of souls, and it is the habit of Your love to restore again and again. We ask You now to restore companionship and affection within this home.

Soften, we pray, any hardness of heart, and kindle afresh tender compassion and kindness between them. Teach them again to dwell upon Your love, that out of hearts warmed by Your love there may arise the perfume of renewed love toward one another. Help them to show love not in mere talk but in real, practical, active affection that never fails. Grant them health and strength, and give them joy in simply being together, whether in quiet conversation or in trying new things side by side. Let their love be nourished by simple faith and by daily communion with You and with each other, that they may eat and drink abundantly of the stores of Your banquet of love.

Guard their union, O Lord, and protect them from the schemes of the enemy who would sow coldness and division. Let their latter years be marked not by distance but by a deeper, calmer, more patient delight in one another, as those who are bound together by mutual love.

We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our great Redeemer who lives and who calls Himself the Husband of His people, and who teaches us how to love by first loving us. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your sorrow over your parents and your desire to see their love flourish is itself an honor to them, and God commands that we honor father and mother. It is good that you have brought this before the Lord.

Marriage is a bond ordained by God, and Scripture teaches that marriage is honorable and pure. It is meant to be lived in peace and holiness, in chaste and orderly love, with husband and wife dwelling together in faithfulness and care for one another. When that companionship grows cold, it brings pain not only to husband and wife but to their children who love them.

I join you in praying for them. May the Lord soften hearts where there has been hardness, and grant your mother and father renewed compassion and tenderness toward one another. May He restore joy to their home, help them to seek peace with one another, and give them health and strength to be active together and to share life together again with gladness. May He guard their covenant from every scheme of the enemy and keep them in the holiness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ.

Continue to honor them in love, to speak gently and to pray faithfully for them, trusting that God who joined them together is able to renew their love and keep them. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name alone is salvation, Amen.

Your love and concern for your parents is a beautiful thing, and it is right to bring their marriage before the Lord in prayer. It is sad to hear a father express that he feels alone in his own marriage, and it is understandable that this would weigh heavily on your heart.

Be comforted to know that when Jesus sees need, He is moved with compassion. In the Gospels we read that when a man with leprosy came to Him and said, if you are willing you can make me clean, Jesus was moved with compassion and answered, I am willing. He then reached out and touched the man, even though to touch a leper was to become ceremonially unclean under the law. He did not have to touch him to heal him, but His compassion led Him to make personal contact and to bring cleansing. That is the heart of the Lord toward us. He sees our condition, He is moved with tender compassion, He is willing to reach out and touch us, and He has the power to bring healing and restoration. There are times when we feel compassion for someone but have no power to help. Jesus is not like that. When He is moved with compassion, He also has the power to act.

He also sees your parents in this season of life. He knows the weariness that can come with age, the quiet distance that can grow between a husband and wife, and the longing for companionship. Bring them to Him with confidence that He cares and that He is willing to touch hearts and to renew love.

God’s design for marriage from the beginning is that two become one. It is a profound unity, a single life woven together. That oneness is meant to include companionship, tenderness, and shared joy through all the years of life. It is good to pray that the Lord would restore that sense of oneness to them.

We join you in praying that the Lord would soften and encourage your mother’s heart and your father’s heart, that He would draw them closer to Himself and to each other, and that He would put a fresh joy and kindness between them. We pray that He would give them health and strength to enjoy time together, to be active together, and to find delight in each other again. We pray that He would guard their marriage from the enemy’s schemes and fill their home with His peace. And we thank God with you that He has kept them together through the years, and we ask Him to continue His faithful work in them, making their love deeper and more gentle as they walk together.

Keep entrusting them to the Lord, who looks upon them with compassion and who is both willing and able to touch and to heal.
