Prayers for my parents marriage

Your pain over your parents marriage has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the Lord with sorrow and hope.

Marriage is a bond ordained by God, and what He has joined together is not to be torn apart lightly. Scripture teaches that marriage is honorable and pure, and that holiness is seen in chaste and orderly living within it, each one remaining faithful to the covenant made before God. That bond is meant to preserve holiness and to keep the home in peace, while what breaks it apart brings severing and dissolving where God intended unity.

We hear your heart to see that bond protected and restored, and that any plan of the enemy to destroy what God joined would come to nothing. We will not ask God to bless unfaithfulness, for He calls all people to faithfulness and purity, but we do ask Him to work for restoration, repentance, and healing where there has been wounding.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son through whom alone is salvation, we lift up this family to You. You see this hurt and this fear of separation. We ask You to have mercy on this father and mother and their covenant. Guard the father from temptation and from any relationship outside his marriage, turn his heart toward repentance and toward love for his wife and family, and guard the mother with comfort and strength. Restore peace between them and help them to follow peace with all people and holiness, living faithfully with one another as You designed marriage to be, one man and one woman in a lifelong covenant. Protect their love, heal what has been broken, and rebuke every work of the enemy that seeks to divide this home. Give wisdom and grace to their child who is praying, that they may continue to honor father and mother and to walk faithfully before You, trusting Your power to redeem and restore. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Continue to pray and to trust the Lord, holding fast to faith and to a life pleasing to Him. God is able to soften hearts, to bring conviction where there is sin, and to rebuild what is torn down when people turn to Him in humility. Seek Him daily in prayer and in His Word, encourage both your parents toward counsel and toward faithfulness, and rest in the knowledge that He hears the prayers of those who seek Him through Christ.

Your heartbreak over your parents' marriage is understandable, and God sees the pain you are carrying. He is the one who designed marriage from the beginning to be two people becoming one flesh, a deep and complete unity. Scripture speaks of that oneness with a word that also describes God's own oneness, a compound unity where two are joined into one. What God has joined together, He intends for no person to separate, and marriage is His gracious design for this life.

That is why your prayer to see that union protected and restored is right and good. It is right to ask God to guard what He joined together and to stand against any plan of the enemy to divide it. God's heart is for faithfulness within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and He calls husbands and wives to honor that covenant and to keep themselves for one another alone.

Please continue to bring your father before the Lord. Jesus showed throughout His ministry that He welcomes sinners who come to Him, and the evidence of a true turning to Him is repentance that leads to real change and to restoration where possible. Pray that if your father is being drawn toward another relationship, God would convict his heart, turn him from that path, and lead him to repentance and to renewed love and faithfulness toward your mother. Pray also for your mother, for comfort and strength and wisdom in this painful season.

Family division is one of the deepest hurts we can experience, and following Jesus in a broken world often means enduring sorrow and even rejection while we keep trusting Him. Scripture reminds us that we will need endurance and that those who endure to the end in faith will be saved. God has not left you alone in this. Keep casting your cares on Him, stay rooted in His Word, seek wise and godly counsel from mature believers you trust, and do not carry this burden by yourself.

We join you in prayer. Father, in the name of Jesus we ask You to have mercy on this family. Protect this marriage that You joined together. Turn the father's heart away from temptation and toward You and toward his covenant vows. Bring conviction where there is sin, repentance where there is wandering, and healing where there is hurt. Comfort this child who is grieving and give peace that passes understanding, wisdom for each step, and faith to endure. Restore what has been broken according to Your will, and let Your grace and truth reign in this home. Amen.
