Prayers for daughters friend with cancer

The sickness of the body is a heavy burden, but to fear it as though God were not our friend is a heavier one. As I have said, when He is our friend, though all men together war against us, there is no harm. You ask for a turnaround in this man's health, and this is a natural and devout desire, for it is the part of a friend to take care that his near friends shall be made partakers of all blessings. You have shown this friendship by your persistent prayer, remembering how he was good to your daughter and grandchildren. This is a precious thing, for a true friend is more to be longed for than the light, and even places are loved on his account.

Yet we must not let our requests be made as though we directed the Physician's hand. There is a healing treatment even in holy lament, when we bewail the condition of one who might not yet have fully obeyed the rules of the Great Physician. Let us not only pray for a reversal of his bodily affliction, which is from that adversary who oppresses the body, but let us also beseech that his soul be made a genuine friend of the Bridegroom. For what gain is it if the sun shines on his body, but his soul sits in darkness? The true friend of Christ desires not his own will but the exaltation of the Master, and in that friendship, there is a joy that surpasses any earthly healing.

Do not let this illness cause you to shudder as though God were terrible to one in need. As I have taught, Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same. Continue in the good work of fervent prayer, not only for his throat but for his whole being. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly through the Scriptures, for they were written for our admonition, and through patience and comfort of the Scriptures we have hope. Let your communication be in the law of the Most High, for how sweet are His words, more than honey and the honeycomb. From this storehouse, draw your petitions, asking first that he and all who love him may know the unspeakable benefits of the Savior, whose treatment we have received when we were an hungered. Then, whether the Lord grants a turnaround of the body or calls the soul to a deeper healing, you will be able to say with confidence, I will not fear what man, or cancer, or death, shall do unto me.
