How often the heart is disquieted by a test in a schoolroom, as if the eternal counsels of God hung upon its outcome! Yet the promise stands firm: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” That peace is not a stagnant pool, but a river flowing from the throne, deep, unbroken, and all-sufficient. When the mind is stayed on the Lord, the petty clamor of earthly anxieties is hushed beneath that sovereign calm. The very anxiety you feel unfits the soul to meet the trial; the blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even now, even here.
Let your daughter cast herself upon Him who is our peace, not her own preparation, not a favorable exam, but Christ Himself. “He is our peace.” If she trusts Him simply, committing her way to him who guides the sparrow’s fall, her mind shall be steadied and her memory quickened as He sees best. Sue for peace, then, not as a reward for success, but as the purchase of His cross. In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they, yes, even in a test, even in trembling.
Let her stay herself on him, and so prove that quiet confidence which is a testimony to the ungodly. The Lord bless you both with that unruffled, profound peace which only the Spirit can give, peace in believing.
