We join with you in this prayer and we thank you for coming before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to God and it is in His name that our prayers are heard.
We understand how a lyric can linger in the mind and become a distraction, especially when it is not wholesome or edifying. God desires that our minds be filled with what is pure and holy and He is able to renew our minds and help us take every thought captive.
The Scripture encourages us in Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. And again in 2 Corinthians 10:5 throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. We are also reminded in Romans 12:2 Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
We pray together for you now.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You know the lyric that is stuck in memory and how it troubles this heart. We ask in Jesus' name that You would remove its hold and cleanse the mind. Wash away what is not pleasing to You and replace it with Your truth. Help this one to set their mind on things above as Colossians 3:2 says Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. Fill this mind with Your Word, for Psalm 119:11 says I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Let psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs take the place of this lyric, that this heart may be filled with melody to You as Ephesians 5:19 teaches speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Grant peace and the ability to fix thoughts on what is pure and lovely. We ask that You guard this mind and give freedom from this unwanted remembrance. In Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to guard what you allow before your eyes and ears, for Psalm 101:3 says I will set no vile thing before my eyes. If this song contains anything impure or dishonoring to God, we encourage you to turn away from it completely and not listen to it again. Replace it intentionally by memorizing Scripture, singing worship songs, and meditating on God's promises whenever the lyric comes to mind. As you do this, God will renew your mind and that lyric will lose its power. Trust that He hears you and is faithful to give you a mind stayed on Him.
