It's Saturday, June 16, 2012 as I write this forward to the weekly newsletter of what's been going on at prayerrequest.com.
1. Live Refreshing
During the last week, there were some changes in the site that allow the requests on the home page to update automatically every two minutes. There is a progress bar that moves across the time indicating the time until the next refresh. It will do this five times for a total of 10 minutes. Then it will turn yellow and stop refreshing until you go to another page on the site and come back. This is to keep server resources low when it's not being used. This also means the home page may take a few minutes before it shows the latest requests. It will not happen immediately like before. To see the site with immediate changes, please view the site through the Forums menu instead of the home page.
2. Server Upgrade
The server was also upgraded this week. It was previously becoming very slow to respond at times. As a result of this, it became necessary to restrict access to keep the server from being overloaded. The new server is now running the site live, is about three times faster, and is able to handle much more activity. Guests will be able to see more pages and inactive accounts will remain for two years instead of two months if nothing is posted. For security reasons, they will still be restricted after one month of not posting until another post is made.
3. Private Chat
During the server upgrade a temporary chat program was used. However, the previous private chat program is now back and only allows chat between people of the same gender. The rules have also been reinstated to reflect this:
Private chat on the bottom tool bar will only show, and is only allowed between, members of the same gender (except for the administrator - pradmin).
Even in the short few days this rule was not in effect, someone acted up and was banned.
4. Email Account Settings
Email accounts are no longer needed to use this site. New members are not asked for their email but can change it later if they want. Existing members with invalid emails will no longer be banned, but have their email replaced with one where the emails are immediately deleted.
