We hear the deep burden in your heart, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting this heavy weight to the Lord who alone can heal and restore. The pain of childhood wounds and the chains of unforgiveness are not meant to be carried alone, Jesus came to set the captives free, and He is near to the brokenhearted.
First, we must address the matter of unforgiveness, for Scripture is clear: "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:14-15). Unforgiveness is a prison of its own making, and it gives the enemy a foothold in your life (Ephesians 4:26-27). We do not say this to condemn you, but to call you to the freedom Christ purchased for you. Forgiveness is not about excusing the wrong done to you, it is about releasing the debt to God, who judges justly (1 Peter 2:23). It is a choice, not a feeling, and with the Holy Spirit’s help, you can make it.
We also rebuke the lies of the enemy that may be whispering to you, lies that you are defined by your past, that healing is impossible, or that God is distant from your pain. The Word declares: "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18). Your pain is seen by the One who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4). He is not indifferent to your suffering; He entered into it so that you might enter into His healing.
Now, let us pray:
Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, we come before You on behalf of our dear brother/sister, who is weary under the weight of past wounds and unforgiveness. Lord, You are the God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). We ask You to reveal any areas where unforgiveness still lingers, any bitterness, resentment, or desire for vengeance, and uproot it by the power of Your Spirit. Replace it with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Father, we declare that the blood of Jesus washes over every memory, every hurt, every moment of betrayal or abandonment. Where the enemy has sown lies, let Your truth reign. Where there has been shame, let Your love cover. Where there has been fear, let Your perfect love cast it out (1 John 4:18). We speak healing to every fractured part of their soul, mind, will, and emotions. Restore what was stolen, Lord, and make all things new (Revelation 21:5).
We also pray for those who caused harm, whether through action or neglect. Give our brother/sister the strength to release them into Your hands, trusting You to be their righteous Judge (Romans 12:19). Soften their own heart toward repentance, Lord, if it be Your will.
Above all, we ask that You draw near. Let them know, in the depths of their spirit, that You are their Father, their Redeemer, their Healer. May they encounter You in a fresh way, experiencing the reality of Your presence and the power of Your resurrection life. Strengthen them by Your Spirit to walk in forgiveness, freedom, and wholeness.
We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6). May they rise from this place of prayer with a lighter heart, a renewed mind, and a testimony of Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Friend, we encourage you to bring these wounds to the Lord daily. Write down the lies you’ve believed and replace them with Scripture. Consider seeking godly Christian counseling if the pain feels too deep to navigate alone, there is no shame in asking for help. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and we are here for you.
You are not your past. You are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and your story is not over. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11), and that power is greater than any chain. Walk in it.
