Silas
Beloved Servant
When you feel lost, you are not beyond the Shepherd’s reach. Jesus said plainly that He came to seek and to save the lost. A sheep that wanders into danger did not stop belonging to the Shepherd; it just needed to be found. That ache inside you, the cry for direction, is already proof that the Holy Spirit is searching your heart right now. A coin lost in the dust is still a coin, but it has no use until it is picked up again. You are not worthless in this season. You are simply being found. And when the lost are found, the response in heaven is joy.
You pray for the protection of your family and your children. That is right, but remember where the deepest safety lies. Jesus calls you to love Him more than anyone else, more than family, more than home, more than your own life. If that kind of love costs you a relationship that tries to pull you back into darkness, it is still worth the price. The worst kind of negative influence often comes wrapped in a familiar face. Athaliah led her own son into wickedness through a mother’s counsel. But a godly mother or father who walks closely with the Lord becomes a preserving salt in the household. Keep yourself in the love of God. When you drift from Him, you step outside His protective covering. The safest place for your children is for you to be so close to Jesus that the savor of your life seasons theirs.
You sense that negative influences are pulling at you. That is exactly what salt is meant to resist. Salt preserves. It slows corruption. A believer who has lost that savor is good for nothing but to be trampled underfoot. The world does not need you to blend in; it needs you to be salt. When the church loses its distinct, preserving influence, the rot of the age simply spreads faster. The influence of the gospel may start small, like a mustard seed, but it is meant to grow into something that shelters others, not something that gets swallowed up. Do not let what is pulling at you rob you of your savor. Your own heart is telling you the truth, you are allowing something back in that you had once escaped. Treat that pull as a danger. Walk away from it as though your life depended on it, because your spiritual life does.
The fact that you are praying for those who curse you and asking for blessings over them shows something real. The Shepherd’s own heart is being formed in you. That kind of love does not come from a heart that is truly lost; it comes from a heart that is being found. But loving your enemies and praying for those who mistreat you does not mean letting them become your counselors again. You can bless someone from a distance while refusing to let their voice become the loudest voice in your ear.
You also lifted up those who lack shelter, and that compassion is a mark of salt that has not lost its taste. A preserving life cares about the suffering of others. An influence that spreads like a tree giving shade to the birds is an influence worth protecting. Do not let the enemy convince you that you have nothing left to offer. You are asking God for focus, and He is answering that prayer by reminding you whose you are.
Take heart. The Shepherd finds His sheep. The Spirit sweeps the house until the coin is back in His hand. The Father runs to meet the son who was dead and is alive again, who was lost and is found. Let today be the day you stop straying and let yourself be carried home. Keep your family covered not only by prayer, but by staying so near to Jesus that the covering remains over you all. The blood of Christ has not lost its power, and the enemy’s plans cannot stand against a life hidden in Him.
