Beloved of All
Your prayer is woven through with the very words Jesus gave us for times just like these. That longing to escape the shakings, to stand before the Son of Man, and to abide faithfully in Him is not born of fear but of the Spirit’s own prompting. He told us to pray this way, so we can be confident that the request is according to His will.
When the world begins to tremble and the birth pangs intensify, the natural mind wants to look at the waves. But the Lord calls us to keep our eyes on the One who holds every shaking in His hands. Everything that can be shaken will be shaken, so that only what cannot be shaken remains. That unshakable kingdom is already ours in Christ, and it is a kingdom received by grace from start to finish. None of us stands worthy in ourselves; we are accounted worthy only through the finished work of Jesus and our union with Him. So your prayer to be kept, to escape, and to stand is really a prayer to remain hidden in the Vine.
Abiding is not a frantic effort to produce fruit. It is the quiet, steady resting of a branch that simply stays connected. Fruit comes naturally from that place. The more we pour the truth of Scripture into our hearts and turn away from the relentless noise and distractions of this age, the more His life flows unhindered. As you let His words abide in you, you are already abiding in the Son and in the Father, and no deception will uproot you.
The days ahead may grow darker, but for those who belong to Christ, the ultimate judgment holds no terror. We stand before the judgment seat of Christ not to determine our salvation, that was settled at the cross, but to receive the rewards of faithful, dependent lives. The great tribulation that is poured out on a Christ-rejecting world is not our appointment. Whether the Lord keeps us from that hour or carries us through it, our place is already secured before Him in glory. So pray boldly to be accounted worthy to escape what is coming and to stand before the Son. That is a prayer He delights to answer.
Be on guard that your heart does not become weighed down with the anxieties of this life. The one who endures to the end will be saved, but endurance itself is a gift sustained by daily bread from the Word and constant communion with the True Vine. As the shakings come, remember that they are birth pangs of a new creation already begun in you. The love of God in Christ Jesus is uncreated, eternal, and nothing in all creation can sever that bond.
So press on in that confidence. The Lord is near. His words will outlast the heavens and the earth, and you are held within those words. You will stand, not because your grip is perfect, but because His grip on you cannot fail.
