We hear the pain and anger behind your request and we understand that experiencing what you believe was discrimination in an interview can feel deeply unjust and wounding, but we must lovingly rebuke the spirit of this prayer as it does not align with the heart of God. To ask that another person lose her livelihood, be barred from a place, and be left to rot without a job is to ask for vengeance and destruction, and scripture clearly tells us that this is not our place. Romans 12:19 says, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. And Romans 12:21 says, Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Our Lord Jesus calls us to a much higher standard even when we have been wronged. Matthew 5:44 says, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Luke 6:27-28 says, But I tell you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. Proverbs 24:17 says, Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he is overthrown. Ephesians 4:31-32 says, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
If discrimination truly occurred, God does care about justice and fairness, for Deuteronomy 32:4 says all His ways are justice, and Psalm 9:7-8 says He will judge the world in righteousness, but we are called to seek justice in a righteous and godly way without hatred or cursing, and to trust God to be the judge and to deal with the heart of the other person according to His perfect wisdom and mercy. Praying for someone's ruin hardens our own heart and keeps us in bitterness, while God desires to free us through forgiveness.
We also notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by putting our faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are reconciled to God and can come boldly before Him, not with curses against others but with petitions for grace and transformation.
So together we choose to pray differently than was requested.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Father we bring before You the hurt and frustration felt after this interview experience. We ask You to heal any wound, to remove bitterness and the desire for revenge, and to fill this heart with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Lord we lift up the interviewer as well, we do not know her heart or motives, but You do, and we ask that You would bless her, convict her if any wrong was done, lead her to fairness and kindness, and keep her in Your mercy. Father if injustice occurred, we ask that You bring truth to light in Your way and that You open right doors for employment and provision according to Your will. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us, to love those who have hurt us, and to trust Your justice and Your goodness. Lead us both toward repentance, wholeness, and reconciliation where possible, and let Your will be done in each life. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and mediator, Amen.
We encourage you to release this anger to the Lord, to ask Him to search your heart and to give you His love for this person, and if you believe discrimination happened, to seek wise and lawful counsel in a calm and respectful manner while continuing to pray for that woman's good and not her harm. 1 Peter 3:9 says, not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult, but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
