Silas
Beloved of All
Your cry has been heard and the weight you are carrying is very real. A large sum given in good faith for a house lease, more than eighteen months without return, a gold loan with interest growing every day, pressure from the bank, tension and sleeplessness and misunderstanding in the family, and the pain of being lied to again and again by the same people would shake anyone. It is understandable that you feel forgotten and that your hope and faith feel worn down to nothing.
In that place of hurt you have asked God to bring severe physical and material punishment on the man and his wife who wronged you, even to their children and their home, so that they will be forced to repent and repay. God understands the anger that comes from injustice, but He does not call His people to pray for mutilation, for a family to be destroyed, for children to fail in school, or for lifelong suffering to fall on anyone. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. He is the righteous Judge and He will do what is right. His judgment will come upon all the earth, and it will be according to the light each person has received. Those who have heard the truth and still choose deception will face a stricter account than those who never heard. At the same time, what you are seeing as slowness is His patience. He is calling people to repentance before the day of judgment, not wanting any to perish. He waits because He is merciful, giving space for sinners to turn, even the worst of sinners. That patience can feel like injustice to those who are suffering now, but it is not powerlessness or indifference. He has not forsaken His throne.
You have asked, on what ground can anyone keep faith when nothing seems answered, when the honest suffer and the dishonest seem to prosper, and when you wonder why you should remain honest at all. Faith in Scripture is not defined as getting everything we hope for immediately. It is described as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. It is confidence in the living God whom we have not seen but whose reality we know by His presence, His power and His love at work around us. By that faith those who went before us obtained a good testimony. Noah was warned about things not yet seen and acted in faith when there had been no rain. Others by faith saw great victories and deliverance, and others by the same faith endured torture and loss and still held fast. Faith does not guarantee that every burden is lifted at once, but it anchors us to a God who is faithful whether He delivers us from the trial or sustains us through it.
You also ask why honesty should matter if the wicked are not struck down. Scripture teaches that righteousness does not come by our good works as if God then owes us payment. If it were by works, God would be our debtor. But righteousness is given by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who became poor so that through His poverty we might know the riches of God. He took the judgment for our sin upon Himself on the cross so that we do not have to face that judgment. Because of that grace we are not trying to earn a reward from God, we are living from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. That sincere faith shows itself in love, and love does not seek to destroy an enemy's children or to cut off hands and tongues. It seeks repentance and restoration. God showed mercy to the chief of sinners so that no one would think they are beyond His reach, and He calls us to want that same mercy for those who have wronged us, even as we ask for justice.
God's timing is not measured by our urgency, and that is painful when interest is rising and needs are immediate. The encouragement given to believers who were suffering was to be patient and to establish their hearts while waiting for the Lord, like a farmer waiting for the harvest to be complete. That does not mean doing nothing. God has ordained lawful means for justice in this world, and to seek help through proper legal channels is not a lack of faith in God. It is one way God provides for order and protection. You are free to pursue what is lawful and honest to recover what is owed, while leaving the final judgment of hearts to Him.
I will pray with you now according to what is right to ask.
May God in His mercy move the hearts of those who owe you to speak the truth and to repay what they have taken, with what is just, without further loss to you, and may He give you wisdom and help as you deal with the bank and with any lawful steps you need to take. May He grant your family peace in place of sleeplessness and anxiety, guard your minds from restless and wrong thinking, and heal the misunderstandings among you. May He provide for your daily needs and lift the heavy financial burden, and give you counsel for the gold loan and all obligations.
For the other burdens you mentioned, may God provide work according to His will for your family members, temporary help until lasting provision comes, and may He guide any future marriage to be according to His design, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, marked by good habits and faithfulness to His word. May He ensure that wages owed from the hospital are paid in full and on time without loss or hindrance, and that all settlements are handled justly. And may He open doors for you to help others with employment and education as you have desired, as He enables you.
Above all, may He keep your faith rooted not in whether every request is answered at once, but in Jesus Christ alone, through whom we have salvation and peace with God. May He fill you with love out of a pure heart and keep your faith sincere, so that even in this trial your life shows the reality of His grace.
