MSC Prayers

Humble Servant of All
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ. After being out of fellowship with God for so long, sometimes I'm baffled over what He Wants me to do and what I think He Wants me to do. With that in mind, I try to pray, probably not enough. Please pray for me and please pray with me. May God’s Will Be Done in all of our lives. After taking care of my Mom for several years a few years back, being so far away from her for so long is getting to seem wrong. I’m not sure what I should be doing? Part of the time I’m feeling as if I should move back to the area she’s living in. Other times I wonder if she would like to be living in or near my neck of the woods. May God’s Will Be Done. I ask this in Jesus’ Precious and Holy Name. Amen.

We join you in prayer and we thank you for sharing your heart so honestly with us. We understand that feeling of being baffled about what God wants after being out of fellowship for a long time, and we rejoice that you are seeking Him again and desire His will to be done in all things. That desire itself is pleasing to Him. Scripture reminds us, Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:8 and If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. There is no need to feel your prayers are not enough, for God hears even the simplest prayer offered in faith through Jesus. We are told to pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 and to cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for us. We also rejoice that you prayed in the precious and holy name of Jesus, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and can know His will.

We hear your burden about your mother and your desire to honor her after caring for her for several years. That honoring heart is biblical and good, for we are commanded, Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. Exodus 20:12 and again, Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise. Ephesians 6:2. The Lord sees your love for her and your wrestling over distance and what is right. Feeling torn between moving back to where she lives or inviting her to live near you is not a sign of failure, it is an invitation to seek wisdom. We are promised, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. God does not want you to guess at His will, He wants to lead you. He says, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8. His will is discerned as we renew our minds and walk closely with Him, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.

We encourage you to continue praying, but also to be in His Word daily and to not forsake fellowship with other believers, for we are exhorted not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another. Hebrews 10:25. A faithful local church can help you pray, provide godly counsel, and help you test what you sense God is saying, for in the multitude of counselors there is victory. Proverbs 11:14. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. Share openly with your mother about how you feel, ask her honestly about her needs, her health, her community and her desires, and consider practical matters like her care needs, your work and church family, and where she can best be supported and thrive. As you seek Him you will find Him, for You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13. Do not be anxious, but In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.

We pray with you now. Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You for this dear one who is returning to fellowship with You and who longs to know and do Your will. Forgive and cleanse and draw this heart close again, and let there be full assurance of Your love and grace. Pour out wisdom liberally as You have promised, and make Your will clear regarding this beloved mother. Show whether to move back to where she is, or to provide a place for her nearby, or what other provision You have in mind. Give honest and loving communication between them, give guidance through Your Word and through godly counsel, and give peace that surpasses understanding while the answer unfolds. Lead every step and let Your will be done in both of their lives for Your glory and their good. Help us all to trust You with all our hearts and to acknowledge You in all our ways. We ask this in the precious and holy name of Jesus, Amen.

Thank you for sharing this so openly. Coming back after time away from fellowship can feel disorienting, and wanting to get God's will right is a good and humble desire. We hear how much you care for your mom and how the distance is weighing on you now.

It makes sense that you feel pulled in two directions. Loving your mom well while also living where God has placed you now is a real tension, and there often isn't a single obvious answer that settles it all at once. Discernment usually comes gradually as we seek Him, listen, and weigh what is wise and loving in the actual circumstances.

One gentle next step that may help is to make space for two conversations. First, talk openly with your mom, if you are able, about how she is doing and what she would hope for, whether that is you nearer to her or her nearer to you. Second, bring one trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you into the conversation to pray with you and help you think through practical realities like health needs, support nearby, work and community. Keeping prayer simple and regular, even brief honest prayers each day, can steady you more than worrying about praying enough.

We are praying for you and for your mom.

Father, thank you for drawing our brother back to yourself and for his love for his mother. Give him clarity and peace as he seeks your will, wisdom for each decision, and assurance of your patient leading. Guide his conversations and provide for both of them according to your care. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your honest and humble prayer is itself a token of grace at work, for the soul that has been out of fellowship and now feels its bafflement and its need of prayer is already being drawn back toward the Father. There is mercy with Him that He should teach us again and again, for when we have not learned after nineteen times He will teach us the twentieth time, so pitiful is He to His children.

You do well to say, May God's will be done, for as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe and the great heart of providence sending its pulsings through even the most distant limbs of human act, so in grace we may rest assured that He is King, willing to do as He pleases, having mercy on whom He will have mercy. It is consistent with the experience of all God's people that salvation and restoration are of God's will, and the work of the Spirit, which is the effect of the will of God, is to change the human will and so make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will and to do of His good pleasure. Therefore we do not pray that God would bend His will to ours, but that He would bend our wills to His, that we may be made willing to do what He appoints.

Concerning the future and this tender question of your mother, take heed to the warning of the apostle James. It is foolish for a man to say, We will go, we will continue, we will buy, we will sell, we will get gain, as if he can both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. All things are under regulation and have an appointed place in God's plan, and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. We will not always say with our lips, If the Lord will, yet we will always feel it in our hearts. While many of God's purposes are hidden from us, there is a revealed will which we must not violate, and part of that revealed will is, Honour thy father and thy mother, and to show piety at home and to requite our parents.

Whether the Lord would have you move back to where your mother lives, or whether He would have you prepare a place for her near you, or whether He would have you serve her at a distance for a season, we cannot yet see, but we can seek Him who sees. Our best profit will consist of doing God's will, and we will not even wish for any course unless we can be promoting the will of God by it.

Let us pray with you and for you.

O Lord our God, we thank Thee that this Thy child desires to be in fellowship with Thee again. Thou hast said, Return unto Me, and I will return unto you. Fulfil that promise now. Wash away all sin through the blood of Jesus Christ Thy Son, through whom alone is salvation, and restore the joy of Thy salvation. Teach this Thy servant to pray and to continue in prayer, to hear Thy Word and to walk in it, and to find grace to help in time of need.

We ask for clear guidance concerning his mother. Thou knowest the years of care already given, the distance that now presses upon the conscience, and the love that would honour Thee by honouring a parent. Give wisdom liberally, as Thou hast promised. Order his steps. Make his will submissive to Thine, so that he may truly say, Father, not as I will, but as Thou wilt. If it be Thy will that he should go, make the way plain and provide all that is needed. If it be Thy will that his mother should come nearer, open that door also. Keep him from hasty resolve and from anxious presumption, and help him to do Thy revealed will day by day while he waits for Thy providential will to be made known. Let Thy will be done in his life and in hers, for Thou art King and Thou doest all things well.

We ask this in the precious and holy name of Jesus, our only hope and righteousness. Amen.
