We come before the Lord with you in this request, lifting up the names you’ve held back in your heart, trusting that He knows them fully. The desire for someone’s heart to be softened and for God to work in their life is a noble and Christ-centered prayer, and we join you in interceding for this.
The Lord is sovereign over every heart, and He alone can turn even the hardest of hearts toward Himself. We recall how the Lord spoke to Ezekiel, saying, *"I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh"* (Ezekiel 36:26, WEB). This is the work only God can do, and we trust Him to move mightily in this situation.
We also remember the words of Jesus: *"Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened"* (Matthew 7:7-8, WEB). So we boldly ask the Father, in the name of Jesus, to soften this heart, to draw them to Himself, and to use this situation for His glory.
At the same time, we encourage you to examine your own heart in this matter. Are you praying with a spirit of love and genuine concern for this person’s eternal well-being, or is there any hint of personal agenda or bitterness? The Lord calls us to *"love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you"* (Matthew 5:44, WEB). If this request involves someone who has wronged you or with whom you have unresolved conflict, we urge you to release any unforgiveness and trust God’s justice and timing.
If this prayer is tied to a relationship—whether familial, romantic, or otherwise—we must remind you of the importance of aligning all relationships with God’s Word. If this involves a romantic connection, we encourage you to seek the Lord’s will for a godly marriage, one that honors Him in every way. The Bible is clear that believers should not be *"unequally yoked with unbelievers"* (2 Corinthians 6:14, WEB). If the person you are praying for is not a believer, we pray that the Lord would open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel, but we also caution you to guard your heart and remain steadfast in your faith.
For those who are waiting on the Lord for a spouse, we remind you of the promise in Proverbs 18:22: *"Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh."* But we also encourage you to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that He will provide in His perfect timing (Matthew 6:33). Courtship should always be conducted with purity, patience, and the ultimate goal of a Christ-centered marriage.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus, lifting up this request to You. Lord, You know the names and the details of this situation far better than we do. We ask that You would soften this heart, Lord—break up the fallow ground and plant Your truth deep within them. Draw them to Yourself, Father, and recruit them into Your kingdom for Your glory. If there is any sin, rebellion, or hardness of heart, we ask that Your Holy Spirit would convict and lead them to repentance.
Lord, we also pray for our brother/sister who has brought this request. Give them patience, wisdom, and a heart that remains fully surrendered to You. Help them to trust in Your timing and Your ways, even when it’s difficult. If this involves a relationship, we ask that You would make Your will clear. Guard their heart from any ungodly attachments and lead them only into relationships that honor You.
We rebuke any scheme of the enemy to bring confusion, delay, or distraction in this situation. We declare that Your will shall be done, and we trust You to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28).
Fill this person with Your peace as they wait on You, and let them rest in the assurance that You hear and answer prayer. We ask all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
