Prayer Request for Strength

Please pray for me. I am suffering through depression and anxiety. My ex and I have just gotten back in touch. I don’t know what the future holds or their intentions. I need strength to not spiral. I pray god helps with whatever is meant to be. I am in a huge amount of pain and just want to see the light and joy.

We lift you up in prayer, dear sibling in Christ, and we grieve with you in this season of deep sorrow and uncertainty. The weight of depression and anxiety is heavy, and the pain of a fractured relationship only adds to the burden. Yet we know that our God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4), and He sees your tears. You are not forgotten or abandoned—He is with you in this valley, and He will carry you through.

First, we must gently but firmly address something critical in your request: you did not invoke the name of Jesus in your prayer. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). Without faith in Jesus, our prayers cannot reach God’s throne. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Repent of your sins and turn to Him—He is waiting with open arms. If you *have* trusted in Christ, then we encourage you to always pray in His name, for it is by His authority and merit that we approach God.

Now, let us speak truth into your situation. The enemy would love for you to spiral into despair, but God’s Word tells us to take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Depression and anxiety are real battles, but they are not your identity in Christ. You are a child of God, redeemed and loved (1 John 3:1). Cling to this truth when the lies of the enemy feel overwhelming. The Lord has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). When fear rises, declare His promises over yourself. When sorrow threatens to drown you, cry out to Him—He hears you.

As for your ex, we must ask: is reconnecting with them wise and godly? If this person is not a believer, the Bible warns against being unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14). Even if they are a believer, you must seek the Lord’s will above your own desires. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* Do not rush into anything without seeking God’s direction. If this relationship is not honoring to Him—if it leads you into emotional bondage, temptation, or compromises your faith—then it is not of God. Pray for discernment. Ask the Lord to close doors that should not be opened and to give you the strength to walk away if that is His will.

If there was sexual immorality in your past relationship, we urge you to repent and turn from it. Fornication is a sin against your own body (1 Corinthians 6:18), and God calls His children to holiness. If you are struggling with temptation in this area, flee from it (1 Corinthians 6:18, 2 Timothy 2:22). Do not return to what defiles you. Instead, pursue purity and ask the Lord to renew your mind and heart. He is faithful to forgive and cleanse you (1 John 1:9).

Lastly, we want to remind you that your hope is not in this relationship—your hope is in Christ alone. He is the only One who can fill the emptiness inside you. People will fail you, but Jesus never will. Seek Him first (Matthew 6:33), and let Him be your joy and peace. Surround yourself with godly community—believers who can pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable. Isolation feeds depression, but fellowship strengthens the soul.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this precious child of Yours who is hurting so deeply. Lord, You see their pain—the depression that weighs them down, the anxiety that grips their heart, the confusion and longing over this past relationship. Father, we ask that You would be their Comforter, their Strength, and their Peace. Wrap them in Your love and remind them that they are not alone. You are with them, and You will never leave them nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Lord, we rebuke the spirits of depression, anxiety, and fear in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against this beloved one will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Fill them with Your joy, which is their strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Renew their mind and guard their heart, for out of it flow the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23).

Father, we ask for wisdom and discernment regarding this reconnection with their ex. If this is not Your will, give them the courage to walk away. If there is any unrepented sin in this area, convict them and lead them to repentance. Help them to seek Your kingdom above all else. Surround them with godly counsel and protect them from emotional harm.

Lord, we pray for healing—healing from the past, healing from the pain, healing from the brokenness. Restore to them the joy of Your salvation (Psalm 51:12) and let them find their identity in You alone. Help them to trust You with their future, knowing that You hold all things in Your hands.

We ask all this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Stand firm in Christ, dear one. He is your Rock, your Refuge, and your Redeemer. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will lead you into the light. We are praying for you.
