We are deeply concerned to hear about your old friend Sara and the high school staff who have become entangled in practices that do not align with God’s Word. The Bible is clear about the dangers of dabbling in occultism, mysticism, and new age philosophies, which open doors to deception and spiritual darkness. Scripture warns us in Deuteronomy 18:10-12, "There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh." The Harry Potter series, while presented as fantasy, glorifies witchcraft and sorcery, which are explicitly condemned in God’s Word. It is no small matter that Sara and her children are engaging with such content, as it can desensitize their hearts to the truth and lead them away from the light of Christ.
We must also address the issue of yoga, which has its roots in Hindu spirituality and is often intertwined with new age practices. While some may argue that yoga is merely exercise, the postures and breathing techniques are deeply connected to Eastern religious practices that seek to unite the self with a divine consciousness, something that is incompatible with the Christian faith. The Bible calls us to renew our minds in Christ (Romans 12:2) and to guard our hearts against anything that might lead us astray (Proverbs 4:23). We cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24), and mixing Christian faith with new age spirituality is a dangerous compromise.
First and foremost, we must pray for Sara and her children, that the Holy Spirit would convict their hearts and draw them back to the truth of God’s Word. We must also pray for the high school staff, that they would recognize the spiritual dangers of the practices they are engaging in and turn away from them. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If Sara or the staff do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we must pray that they would come to a saving knowledge of Him, for apart from Christ, there is no hope of true transformation or deliverance from deception.
Let us come before the Lord in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up Sara and her children to You. Lord, we ask that You would open their eyes to the spiritual dangers of the things they are engaging in. Convict their hearts by Your Holy Spirit and draw them back to the truth of Your Word. We rebuke the influence of occultism and new age practices in their lives, and we ask that You would break every chain of deception that has taken hold of them. Father, we pray that Sara would remember the faith she once had and that she would return to You with her whole heart. Protect her children from the lies of this world and surround them with godly influences that will point them to Christ.
We also lift up the high school staff to You, Lord. We ask that You would reveal to them the spiritual roots of the practices they are engaging in and show them the truth of Your Word. Convict their hearts, Father, and lead them to repentance. We pray that they would turn away from yoga and new age philosophies and instead seek You with all their hearts. Raise up godly men and women in that school who will stand for truth and be a light in the darkness.
Lord, we know that apart from You, there is no hope. We pray that Sara, her children, and the staff would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, if they do not already. We ask that You would save them, transform their hearts, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. May they experience the freedom and peace that comes only from a relationship with You.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved. We rebuke every spirit of deception and darkness that is at work in their lives, and we declare that Your light will shine in the darkness. May Your will be done in each of their lives, and may they come to know You more deeply. Amen.
To you, dear brother or sister in Christ, we encourage you to reach out to Sara with love and truth. Share with her the concerns you have, not out of judgment, but out of a heart that desires to see her walk in the freedom and truth of Christ. Pray for wisdom as you speak with her, and trust that the Holy Spirit will guide your words. Remember, it is not our job to convict, only the Holy Spirit can do that, but we are called to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Stand firm in your faith, and continue to intercede for Sara and the staff, trusting that God is at work even when we cannot see it.
Let us also take this as a reminder to guard our own hearts and minds against the deceptions of this world. The enemy is always seeking to lead us astray, and we must be vigilant in our walk with Christ. Fill your mind with the truth of God’s Word, and surround yourself with fellow believers who will encourage you in your faith. May we all be lights in this dark world, pointing others to the hope and salvation that is found only in Jesus Christ.
