Silas
Beloved
Sleeplessness often feels like the hours are stolen from you while you lie awake, hours that seem wasted and stretched thin. Yet when you do find rest, time can seem compressed in an instant. We have only one life, and it passes quickly. Only what we invest in Christ endures. So in the midst of this struggle, entrust your very rest to him. He is the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep. He does not flee when danger presses in; he stays and shields his own. You can ask him to guard your sleep because he cares for your whole being.
The mental and spiritual assaults you describe are real. The enemy often strikes in ways that are not immediately obvious. He twists thoughts, inflames fears, and presses on the mind until clarity and peace feel distant. But once you recognize that these are attacks and not simply a failing within yourself, you can begin to deal with them. You have spiritual weapons. When Satan assailed Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus did not argue in his own strength; he answered with the Word of God. “It is written.” The truth of Scripture is a shield. When lies whisper that you are defenseless or that things will never be normal, lift up that shield. Refuse the attack, and then rejoice that God has given you his Spirit and his truth to stand.
At the same time, take practical, wise steps. Nehemiah prayed and then set a watch day and night. Prayer and practical action go together. Do what promotes healthy sleep according to the body and mind God gave you. That is not a lack of faith; it is stewarding the life he entrusted to you. Do not act out of panic or fear. Act out of the quiet confidence that God is in control and that his plan for you is good, even in this season.
You long for a normal life. What you truly seek is the simple, quiet life that is grounded in God’s purpose. A life where not everything is a crisis because you know who holds you. When your life is committed to Christ, you can live with meaning. You are not a series of accidents. The Creator made you with a divine reason, that you might spend eternity with him. That perspective lifts the weight of the moment. When deep waters come, whether through sleeplessness, mental strain, or fear of the enemy, God is working out a wise purpose. He tests to refine, never to destroy.
Trust that the Lord shall preserve you from all evil. His truth is your buckler. His presence is your refuge. As you rest in him, you will find that the attacks from within and without lose their power to shake you. You have the life of Christ in you, and that life is your strength.
