It sounds like the dollar amount of the contract is within the amount that you can take to small claims court, where you represent yourself. You present the contract and the work you did, and the judge makes a decision. It doesn't sound like the client has a leg to stand on in court.

Thank you for your input. My husband has finally been able to schedule a meeting with an attorney - we were advised to write a formal letter to the company that will threaten a legal action if the company doesn't fulfill their financial obligations.
